Day 80 (Thursday 4th January 2007)
Packed up the tent, had coco pops and made way to 'Telegraph Saddle' car park to begin our 16km hike to Refuge Cove (via Sealers Cove).
First we forgot to get some drinking water, so we had to head back. Then having begun the hike, we realised we'd forgotten our permit, so had to go back to car...we should have called it a day there! After a further 14-minutes we decided that the whole thing was bulls*** in 35*C heat and swarms of flies (including the bird-sized March flies) and what with the weight of tents, cookers, sleeping bags and god knows what else braking our backs.
Frustrated and dripping wet, we returned to the visitor centre and swapped our permit for a new campsite within Tidal River, before relaxing for the rest of the day down the beach (Squeaky/Whisky).
Later that evening we set up our new camp, had tea (yum chicken soup) and took a dusk walk down to Tidal River, the kookaburras in histerics behind us!
PS Hey Stevie, another hilarious message ol' chap! We reckon you must be immune to all the world's venomous creatures by now! With all the stuff that's in your body, they should keep you in the antivenom cupboard at London Zoo!! Let us know how you get on with your Eiffel Tower mate...
