Milan. First of all, this picture is the complete opposite of what Milan looks like. We arrived in Milan in the morning, after taking the overnight train from Barcelona. We were forced to upgrade our train tickets and get beds instead of just reclining chairs. How horrible. We were in a cabin of four with a girl, Mallory, from Pittsburgh (too bad she didn't know Amy). We had some good comparison stories about Spain, then parted ways as our train arrived in Milan.
Ahh, back in a country where we have no idea about the language. First thing off the train, we dropped our bags at the luggage storage and headed out to see the sights of Milan! It was a bit confusing, but eventually we found the metro station. We stared at some extrememly complicated maps of trains and stations and colors and stops ... I think we were probably just staring as you would at a lava lamp. Apparently in Italy, a blank glazed over stare means you know what you're doing, because we were asked directions or for help by three different people. Hello! Does is look like we know what we're doing???
We eventually made it to the duomo, which was gigantic and amazing. As we started walking towards it, a random man threw bird seed at my feet, and as 8020 pigeons surrounded me and attempted to peck my toes off, he offered to take my picture. What? No! Get away from me!
The church was lovely, but nearly the only sight to see in Milan. We then walked to the next sight, which was a castle. We walked through the castle, peering down hallways and crossing through cortyards, dodging people trying to sell us cheap purses. Then we just walked around the city a bit. Milan is very... city. Full of upscale shopping and banks... those two go hand in hand of course. We did SOME shopping... at H&M. Haha, I bought a hair clip. Exciting. At least we can say we shopped in Milan!
After eating some DELICIOUS pizza bread and some sort of pear infused brownie, we decided we had seen all we needed to see of Milan. We went back to the train station, picked up our bags, and hopped on the next train to Florence :)
MMM Italian food!!!
