FA FA FA FLORENCE! hahah... um whatever...
HELLO!
we are in lovely FLORENCE ITALY! i think all three of us fell in love with this quaint city from the very start. so after milan... since that was like 3 seconds...
our first night in florence was pretty low key. we got off the train, walked (what seemed like miles) to our hostel, then rang the bell to find out no one was answering. what the!? we must've rang that bell 8020 times before some canadian girl opened the window and threw her keys at us. apparently the hostel we booked has like 4 different locations and we were meant to go to a different one. so after walking 8020 miles to the hostel from the train, we had to back track to the guest house of Emerald Fields. it was nice, but empty. we met our 1 roomie... liz... she is from canada and traveling alone. she hung out with us quite a bit in florence and that was nice.
anyway, we dropped our stuff, showered, and then went with these 2 random guys from the hostel to try and find a tv at a bar to watch the soccer game. we finally made it to this little place and it was also empty. we asked about the tv and the guy started leading us to this secret back room... ooo eee ooo! we felt like VIPs until we got back there and realized that that VIP viewing room was also, yes that's right, empty. so we watched the last 20 minutes of the game... alone... the guys had 1 beer each, and then we left. it was fun, but weird, but fun! then we ditched those shmoes and went out for some authentic italian grub! jo and i had delicious veggie pizzas and amie (after getting about 8020 weird looks from our waiter because she sat at the wrong table) got ... well... she ate it so fast she can't even remember waht it was. so that was lovely!
the next morning we woke up early and waited in line to see the DAVID. man oh man. i was impressed! it was gorgeous and GIGANTIC! it was so nice to just sit and stare at him! also, there was this mapplethorpe guy who had a whole photography gallery set up in the museum. that was also wonderful! it was a good start to a long day. after we said what up to davey, we walked to the Duomo. that was also GIGANTIC! like the 3rd largedest dome in the world or something? maybe? something like that. then we walked on to some plazas, then across the 'house bridge' (as i called it at least), walked a bit on that side of the river, walked to a church, got lost for a while, ate some gelato, jo bought some really lovely artwork, and then we went back to the duomo to climb to the top! it was quite a climb! SUPER hot and SUPER crowded, but SUPER AMAZING! the view was fantastic and totally worth the climb! over 500 steps i think? yes i think... anyway, it was great! we all kinda got lost, but eventually we found jo at the bottom of the duomo. we walked back to our hostel on via gulefa and jo relaxed in the hostel while amie and i went with our new buddy liz to the spaghetteria! MMM! we all had spaghetti and delicious italian deserts... mmm...
the next day, we were scheduled to go on this bike tour through tuscany. we were all SO excited. like SO SO SOOOOOOOOOOO excited! BUT we waited, and waited, and waited and the guy never showed up. we tried calling and everything but he just wasn't coming. we were all really disappointed......... so we got some gelato.
that day we ended up walking all the way down the river up to the plaza michaelangelo. we ran up the steps/hill to the top and were panting by the time we got up there! but that was also very worth it. we could see all of florence from on top of that hill and it was just beautiful. after walking around a bit up there, we headed down and the walked along the river back to the main part of florence. we said goodbye to liz and said we'd meet up with her in rome, and then jomegamie skipped off to catch the train. we are intent upon going back to florence for that bike tour! we want some tuscany!!!! we'll see...
let the adventure continue!
ole!
