Madrid is the coolest city we have ever been to. We did a 3 hour walking tour, and the history of the city and royal family is amazing. It is a beautiful city with more bars per capita than any other city (more than 1 for every 20 people!). We also found out the way we eat tapas now isnt how the spanish do, you don't go to one resturant and choose 4 or 5 tapas, you are supposed to order a drink and get a small taste of the house specality meal and then move on to the next bar and repeat. In light of this we did our own little tapas tour for dinner, taking us all over the city. It was a sunday night and everywhere was packed with very dressed up people, it felt like a Saturday night! got speaking to a local at one place who didn't seem phased at our questioning about everyone bein drunk but needing to be at work in the morning, "it's just the Spanish way" he said.
Our favourite place in town was the central market, it's this market where you can buy meat and veg like you would expect, but in the evenings it also sells food to eat, wine etc at every stall. So you walk around with a glass of wine or sangria and buy little tapas to eat while looking at the rest of the market. It was such a good spot and we had the best mini burgers and hotdogs we'd ever tasted!
On the way out of town we stopped in Segovia, see the photos, it's a small hilltop town famous for it's huge roman aqueduct. Definetly worth a stop at.
