This is a very sad day, the end of my trip :(
I have a couple of days to catch up on...
When Jess woke up on Friday we took it easy and went shopping. It was cool to wander around the shops and Jess bought a coat and a few other bits and pieces. We had a cake at a bakery which was very yummy!
We found Nate and Andrew when we got back to the hostel and started talking to another Aussie called Bret. The five of us had a few beers then went to the muslim quarter to buy some food. It was kind of closing up but people managed to get a variety of kebabs and bread.
When the place finally shut down on us we went to another hostel. This was around 11:30pm and we'd already been drinking for a while so things were a little hazy. Someone (Andrew) opened some baijiu on the way which didn't help things! We walked to the hostel and just about made it alive after a few dodgy road crossings because the subways were shut. The other hostel was cool but a little expensivee. We borrowed some cards off an English girl and played some Kings with a very argumentative Scottish guy. It was fun in the bar but we didn't stay too long. Me and Andrew made some Chinese friends and Jess told the Scottish guy to go away.
When we ran out of booze we walked back to a club called MGM. It was pretty crazy and we got to do some dancing. I wasn't impressed when I tried to buy water for 15RMB though and after a drunken rant I ran off outside to try to find a cheaper bottle. Eventually I found a machine, bought some for 2RMB and headed back where Jess told me to go! When I got back to the club I found everyone leaving, although we'd lost Bret somewhere along the way.
On our walk home someone thought it would be good to climb on a lion... Jess made it look so easy but I jumped up and realised there was nothing to hold on to and had a fairly embarrassing tumble. With much help I eventually made it on to the lion!
We made it back to the hostel to find everything locked and the bar closed! (I think it was about 3:30am) so we went out to look for more beer. After walking around for ages we couldn't find any so ended up in McDonalds. We chatted to some guy in French (Andrew did most of the talking) then went back and woke up our room mates and spoke to them for a while before getting to bed about 5am.
Yesterday I woke up feeling ok (except for lion bruises...) and had a hearty beans breakfast with Jess. When Nate and Andrew emerged we decided to visit the city walls.
It was a really smoggy day and we couldn't see much. The walls were covered in some very crazy decorations. We decided to rent some bikes and ride around the walls. The boys got a tandem and looked such a cute couple! It was a lot of fun but about halfway around people's hangovers started to kick in. We powered through though and swapped bikes so me and Jess had a go on the tandem. When we finished the ride we were tired and hungry. We went for pizza woo! It was a good meal and I was so full afterwards. We went straight back to the hostel and I had a nap.
Our room mates had left, and left a lot of mess so the cleaners weren't too happy but we had it to ourselves again. We reconvened about 6pm in the bar and found Bret again. He'd just gotten lost the night before. We stayed in the hostel bar pretty late. We played kings then ordered some food. We started talking to two more Aussies from Melbourne, I guess there's no-one left in Australia!
At about midnight we stocked up on beer, lost Bret and the new girls and went for a walk on a hunt for cheaper beer. We found some street food not far from the hostel and shared some very good bread noodles. We bought some beer from there too and went back to the hostel. It was just shutting up but we met another Aussie girl and she joined us in the room for games and chatting.
We stayed there a good while then decided we wanted some food. No-one was too keen on McDonalds so we went looking for a 24 hour place that Nate had seen. On the way we encountered my lion nemesis! I wasn't stupid enough to try it again, but wee found a different lion further down the street than I conquered easily! When we arrived it was open but only sold drinks... It didn't matter though because we found some more street noodles. They were really good and we sat around there for quite a long time. We were drunk enough at this point to be getting sad about our last night.
At about 5am we made it back to the hostel and I ended up chatting then crashing for an hour.
I woke up at 7am and Nate, Andrew and Jess were still going! I packed and said sad goodbyes then Andrew and Jess walked me to the subway.
I guess somewhere in this story yesterday became today!
I ran off into the sunset (around the corner) then did my best to find the bus stop. After nearly getting run over again (stupid closed subways!) I made it across the road and found a bus waiting for me. I got on and went straight to sleep.
I arrived at the airport way too early, the hostel desk lied about how long it took! After laughing at the price of coffee (60RMB) I found a bit of wall, sat on my bag and slept for over an hour. I was then able to check in and go through security. I'm now waiting to get on my plan but it's possibily running a little late...
Time to go home :(
