When the train arrived in Kunming I found a taxi and the hostel easily enough. I t was much warmer than Guilin and the hostel was very nice so I unpacked and had a shower.
Afterwards I decided to look around and ran into Sam G who was visiting Kunming with Andy! They had just arrived so I let them get sorted and I went for a walk to find some lunch whilst my clothes were washing.
I found a clothes market and lots of food stalls and had the best noodles I'd had in a long time. I went back and sorted out my washing then went back out into the city. I found a food market which sold lots of weird things, including (tasteless) cheese!! Then I found a park and lake which was very pleasant with lots of people playing music.
I was feeling ill after a while so I went back to the hostel to rest. After a few hours sleep I went to get some water and found Sam and Andy playing pool. I was feeling better so I joined them for tea.
We went looking for a specific restaurant and after a bus/walk/taxi we asked a western guy on the street, who told us it was closed, but he was italian and conveniently had a restaurant down the road.
The restaurant was very Italian and the food was fastastic, bruscetta, canneloni and tiramasu mmmm. We walked back to the hostel then had another beer before turning in for the night.
This morning I was hoping to go to the Stone Forest but I was feeling more ill and my cold sores had grown so I stayed in bed. I woke up about 1pm, had a shower and got a toasted sandwich and coffee although I'm still feeling a bit off.
I'm also frustrated with Chinese travel, I wonder what Vietnam is like this time of year...
