So sorry everyone that I didn't get the chance to finish the blog off that night once I'd been out for something to eat the internet cafe was closed when I got back and I needed to be up, packed and breakfasted by 7 the next day. Anyway back to the first week.
It took me 8 and a half hours to get to the rest house - I was so tired and couldn't eat anything just wanted to go to bed but before that the main guide had a little chat with me about the next days climb and we decided together that I wouldn't attempt the suimmit. I was so gutted but it really was the right decision. Everyone else got up at 2.30 but I got a lie in until 7 - nice.
I started the descent at 8 and it nearly killed me - it was so much harder coming down than going up - it was quicker I did it in four hours but the pain in my ankles and knees was horrendous. For the next three days everyone - even the very fit and young people found it difficult to walk and climbing up stairs was agony.
The next day we got a bus then a boat up the river and stayed in jungle lodges that left a lot to be desired - it sounds like bliss but believe me it was scarry. We dumped the bags and went for a boat ride farther up the river - we saw some incredible animals but the main thing was we saw a very large male orang making his next for the night.
The next morning we all agreed that we would leave camp at 6 to see if we could see the Orang utan getting up in the morning and we did - he's just got up and was standing at his fully height collecting fruit from trees - he was magnificent.
WE spent two days at the jungle lodge and it was so much fun plus being amongst all the wild life - amazing.
Saturday we left the jungle and went to Sepilok the Orangutan sanctuary - will be going on about this place for many many years - would just love to go back and be a volunteer - it's wicked.
Sunday we went back to Kota Kinabalu - Monday we went snorkelling to an island just off the coast - unfortunately quite dirty and a little disappointing.
Tuesday - met up with my new group and the start of the 'hard-core' week. Will hopefully carry this on tomorrow night - it's 1.05 a.m. and I've got to be up by 6 a.m. for my last day of the World Tour - can't believe it.
