Arrived here quite late on Thursday - had a little bit of bother at the airport - don't worry it wasn't drugs or anything like that - it was a hotel situation again - will I never learn, Hadn't booked forward so 'no room at the inn'yet again. Eventually after two hours searching I got a small boutique hotel not too far out of the city but with lovely staff. Chatted to Terence the Manager for ages on the Thursday night - he was giving me all the low down on the non-tourist places to go.
Friday morning, on Terence's recommendation, I went for breakfast to a typical Singapore market that had lots of little stalls selling just Singapore cuisine - all cooked onsite - it was terrific. I had noodles and egg for $1 (50p) and then because it was so cheap I had a plate of dumplings with some kind of sauce over them but the sauce was a little too sweat for my taste so didn't finish them - also $1.
Spent most of the day sightseeing round Singapore - exhausting because of the heat - not sunny just hot - I've got puffy ankles - feeling tree trunks legs could be the look this summer. Went to Raffles in the afternoon for a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar - very colonial $30 a drink but well worth it - I sat at the bar eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor.
Went back tonight to the market for dinner had prawns, squid and chicken with two different kinds of noodles - $3 - can't beat it - I'll be back tomorrow morning for breakfast. One of the stalls does a soup with everything from the inside of a pig in it - won't be having that - Terence said he wouldn't touch that either.
Off to Borneo tomorrow evening so no idea when I'll get to do my blog but wish me luck and hope that I'll see Orangutans in the wild then maybe I'll shut up about them.
