Day of the condor.
We again were up early as we needed to be in the Colca canyon
by 8-830am, this is apparently when they the Condor being to fly. The scenery was similar to the day before but this time we could see the canyon so deep that seeing the bottom with the naked eye was just about impossible.
While travelling our guide Ali told us that Peru has 400 volcanos, Arequipa has 116 of which a 11 are still active. We arrived at the canyon and before we can get off the bus ,on our left sitting on a rock is an adult Condor preening it self . Camera are drawn from there cases and the constant clicking is deafening. She flew from this position to another and again the clicking began. She then drop behind a rock and out of sight.
The next hour produce no condors and Shirley was getting bored, than the first condor reappeared but this time with a juvenile bird, You might wonder how does John know this, Ali told us that adults are black with white feathers around the neck and along the tips of their wings ,the male also has a red comb similar to rooster and the female has Red eyes. The juvenile has brown feathers and developing white feathers. When born all condors are white. And just to equip you for any trivia you may attend condors are monogamous.
Vamoos, were leaving so back on the bus and we are starting trip Puno, but before we go our guide would like to show us a typical canyon people, Shirley and I decide to say on the bus which stops maybe 1 kilometre down the road. I stay on the bus Shirley hops off lays stretch out on a boulder taking in the sun when suddenly a full grown condor flys straight over her probably no more than 20 meters above her, she screams with excitement ,I get off the bus and get the classic condor flying photo.
The next six hour take us to next destination which is Puno, I can tell you nothing much about this journey it pissed down the whole way and all the windows fogged up.
Well that's another day over , this was a fantastic one.
Hope are all well
Happy birthday Sandra

Sandra and Hayden How fabulous! Can't imagine how majestic it would be to see a bird flying so close overhead.
