In Darwin I met up with some more people that I would be working with the next week. One guy was named Josh. He is from Victoria and has a very chilled and composed personality. The other guy is completely different. His name is Geoffrey and he is from New Zealand. He is super energetic and loud. He pretty much has the same personality as me. The weird part is that he looks like me to, it's quite scary. Basically when we hung out we fed off of each others hyperness and it was bad news for anybody who was not ready for it. We stayed at a backpackers right in the heart of Darwin. This is my first big city since Perth, so it was a little strange to see big buildings, but refreshing. So we went out that night and went to a bar that was catered to backpackers. Every thirty minutes the DJ put on a game for people to play and the prizes were jugs of beer. Some of the games you could win tours and cameras and stuff like that. It was cool because we pretty much drank for free; because not that many people did the games we always did every game. Free piss, alcohol is called piss, why not. The next day I went to the Crocosaurus exhibit. It was basically a zoo with massive crocs, and all kinds of reptiles. It was the largest collection of Australian reptiles in the world. What was cool was that you could swim with the crocodiles in a glass box. It looked pretty lame though, because the crocs are super fed and they didn't move at all. That night we decided to go out again, but this night had a different outcome. We end up going to the bar getting some free piss. I also won a free jumping croc tour, and a free sim card with 30 dollars on it. Remember the energetic guy named Geoffrey, well we ended up getting drunk and getting kicked out of the bar. So we decided to walk around town and see whats up. We walked passed a couple arguing, so we stopped and watched them argue for a while. We were drunk it was entertaining. We didn't say anything bad or mean, we just said its like a movie or a soap opera. They kept on saying PISS OFF! But we didn't listen. So the lady comes up to us and starts to push us, and we were like ok will leave gosh. So we took a couple of steps and started watching again. By this time they were pretty pissed off. So the guy decides to walk towards me pull his fist back and punch me right in the jaw. I was caught off guard, because I didn't think he would do it. Plus I was drunk and my balance was non-existent. So I fell to the ground and hit my head on the concrete. It didn't hurt or anything, but the next day my forehead had a massive whelp on it. I tried to take some pictures of my injuries they are in my photo album.
Next day we went Katherine to work the next week. We went the Ntimulik Gorge. It was awesome. There was a massive cliff that we all jumped off. The water was super clear and tasted amazing too. When we walked back to the car I saw my first of many Cane Toads. The next day we didn't start work until the afternoon so me and Jeff decided to go fishing. We walked around and asked the local aborigines were the good fishing spots. They told us to get the green frog and go under the bridge. So we went under the bridge with my hand line and started to fish.We couldn't find the green frog, but there was a park ranger there checking the croc traps. He gave us some bait he used to bait the traps, but we didn't catch anything. We stayed at a small backpackers in Katherine. There was also an Indian guy staying there named Romi, or something like that. He had a card game sort of like hearts. The goal was to get rid of your cards, and the loser has to do a dare that we voted on before the game. So the first condition was jump into the pool. The second condition was to eat a bug. The last condition was eat a whole teaspoon of chilli powder. Thankfully I was fortunate enough to not lose and do any of these things. Staying in a backpacker you get to meet all kinds of people. Sometimes you meet people that are really annoying and you really can't get rid of them.I met a guy which he had to have been in his 50s. He was one of those guys that knew what to say that would annoy the s*** out of you. One night he tried telling me that there is a moth with two wings. It was quite funny because he believed he was right. So I decided to have fun with this guy. The next night we were all drinking some beers, and he started talking about music. He started to ask me questions about ZZtop and I agreed with what he said, even though some of it was bogus. So I decided to see if I can make a huge bulls*** lie and see if he would agree. So I said hey man do you remember Joey Sunshine from the sixtys. He was like sunshine…sunshine o yea! So I said you remember his hit don't steal my car. And I started humming a tune, and he started following and singing! It was quite amazing, because it was a complete bull s*** lie. I also told him I graduated from Julliard. I told him the reason its named the high E string on a guitar is when in the 70's rockers would be really high when they solo on that string, so they called it the high E string. That night this really drunk dude was knocking on his door for ages. He then decided to knock on his window, and one time he knocked to hard and broke the window. It was great because he had no idea what just happened so he decided to just fall down and go to sleep. The last day we worked me and Jeff decided to call it quits early and see a guy jeff signed up the other day. I forgot his name but he is 89 years old and feeds the local birds every evening. He threw out some sunflower seeds and within 20 minutes about 9 sulpher crested cockatoos come flying in.It was pretty cool to see which one was the dominate one and chased the others away.
We then booked it to the Adelaide river to go see some jumping crocs. We left on Saturday and decided to go to Kakadu and do a little bit of work. When we got to Kakadu, none of us wanted to work, and plus there was absolutely nowhere to stay.So we decided to go the town Adelaide River and get ready for the next day. On the way to river in between Kakadu and Darwin, I encountered one of my most memorable experiences so far. We were driving and Dan decided to stop and turn around. He said that there was one of those frilled lizard things on the road. I about jumped out of the car. So we turn around and this thing is lying down on the road just getting some sun rays. So we sneak up on it, but it decides to book it to the closest tree. He climbs all the way to the top of the tree and my mate, Jeff, decides to climb the tree and catch this bad boy. He gets all the way up there, and has nothing to catch this lizard with. If you look at the pictures this bad boy has some nasty teeth. So I throw him my shirt for him to put the lizard in. He puts it in and climbs down. I have been a fan of this lizard my whole life, and to finally see one in the wild. It was freaking amazing! We end up letting it go and it turns on us and tries to scare us away. We get back on the road and we suddenly stopped again. This time there were about 30 to 40 red-tailed, and yellow-tailed black cockatoos nesting in the trees. We then decided to go down an unsealed track, not unsealed road, because it seemed like a short cut. We get there and it says the road is closed at the Margaret river. So what do we do, we go for it. It's a small gravel road in the middle of the bush, and mind you we are driving in the dark. Around ever turn there was a massive hole we had to dodge, or a water hole we had to swerve around. And so we get to the Margaret River and it isn't dry. There is water flowing over the bridge. So I got out and checked how deep it was and it was about a foot to a foot and half deep. So we decided to goose it and see what happens. We make it through. Huge sigh of relief. We get back into the car and start driving. All of sudden there is a nasty noise coming from the car. We are freaking out. We are in the middle of nowhere, we aren't even supposed to be on this road, and if we break down we are SOL. We checked it and it turns out that one of the plastic guards around the tyre has been pushed and jammed, which was grinding on the tyre. We fixed it and moved forward. Little did we know that the actual Margaret River we did not pass yet. So we are goosing it around these turns, and right around the corner was the Margaret River. We slammed on the brakes almost ran straight in. This crossing was twice as long and deeper than the other one. So we said screw it and decided to turn around. We wasted an hour on this road and have to back track. We end up going all the way to Adelaide River and call it a night. The next day we call our boss to see where this Jumping Croc tour is. Turns out its on the Adelaide River, not in the town Adelaide River. So we have to basically go all the way back to where the dirt track meets the road. The jumping Croc tour was freaking cool. These Crocs weigh about 500 kilos and are thrusting half their body out of the water just with the power of their tail. Basically they tie meat to a pole and hit the water until a croc comes by. They then tease it until it jumps out of the water chasing the meat. What was cool was while we were waiting for the croc a white-bellied Sea Eagle decides to fly down and steal the meat off the string. It was pretty awesome. We then drove back to Darwin, where our Boss, Duncan, gave us a going away/pat on the back dinner. We did really well in Katherine so he took us out to a very nice restaurant. We then went out and I caught a plane to Cairns at 5:45 in the morning. This is where I am going to leave you. Next time I will tell you all about cairns
