Today was the last day of our cruise on the Danube. We arrived into Budapest around 8.00am after sailing from Bratislava the previous evening. The persistent rain has continued to follow us but hasn't really impacted the trip too much. The morning activity was a 'do as the locals do' walk around Budapest which included trips on the local public transport (subway/tram), a visit to a fresh food market, public garden and coffee house. The coffee house also produced gorgeous cakes, chocolates and marzipan sweets. In the photos you will see cute sweet treats in the shape of mice and hedgehogs.
We finished the tour at the City Markets which for me resembled the Victoria Markets in Melbourne. The markets sold fresh fruit and vegetables on one level and tourist souvenirs on the second level. There was a lot of locally produced items for sale including clothing, lace & linen and other souvenir items.
In the afternoon we returned to the city to look at some of the local shops. As the afternoon continued the sun finally emerged after being rainy for several days. The sunshine was wonderful and we took the opportunity to walk along the Danube river.
The evening was occupied with the farewell dinner, local entertainment on board and some alcoholic drinks. We also travelled along the Danube at night to see the city lit up. There are some photos that have been uploaded that capture the beauty of the city at night.
In the morning we leave the ship to continue our holiday with two more nights in Budapest.
