We arrived into Vienna early this morning and docked alongside a fleet of similar river boats. In all I counted about thirteen boats all docked in the same area so the city is a major cruise draw card.
After an early breakfast and a talk on the history of Austria we went on a walking tour of Vienna. The tour was led by a local guide and took us on a trip through the centre of the city. As we wound our way through the city streets, we got to sample the local coffee. At another venue we sampled three different local sausages and at a third location we sampled some local wine.
After the tour we continued to explore the city. We found a nice restaurant to have lunch in. We both had Wiener Schnitzel for our meal, what else would you expect? After lunch we continued our walk around the town. There were plenty of interesting shops with many local wares and a smattering of historical sites and old buildings. We returned to the ship by taking the subway.
After a short break we went to the ship's briefing and then had dinner. Following dinner we headed out along with about 60 fellow passengers to a private chamber orchestra concert featuring music by Mozart and Strauss. The concert was wonderful and included opera singing and ballroom dancers performing waltzes. This was certainly a highlight.
Tomorrow we have the morning in Vienna before we visit Bratislava in the afternoon.
