John&Charlotte exploring South America
It's a very Good Friday on Easter Island! We have been here, the most remote inhabited island in the world, for four magical days.
One of our favourite pastimes has been 'Moai hunting' and walking along the rim of volcanoes that are also all over the island. Moai are the large statues carved between 13th and 16th centuries by the Rapanui, the indigenous population. They are truly an amazing and humbling sight.
Adding to the idyllic setting are lush green vegetation, the most beautiful beach that we have ever seen, friendly people, wild horses and bright, hot sunshine.
We're sad to leave tomorrow but are looking forward to two more days in Santiago before we hop back over the Andes.....
