After returning from Colonia, we wanted to use our last day in Buenos Aires to stroll through the area of San Telmo.
This is another bohemian, artistic and up-and-coming area, that also came very recommended by Josephine, John's friend in Buenos Aires, with whom we met up twice and who also kindly hosted us for one night and provided us with much appreciated recommendations and insiders' insights.
We still arrived at Plaza Dorrega in time to see the famous Sunday flea market with all its stands and related activities.
The neighbourhood is very charming and real - with lots of adorable antique shops, art galleries, restaurants and beautiful old bars.
We listened to several street musicians, brass bands and even a spontaneous street concert to which a very cute old man started to dance on his walking stick and to the applause of the surrounding crowd.
Then Josephine took us to a local steakhouse, which apparently has been frequented by Maradona, Clinton and the like.
While Vegetarian Charlotte could still not be tempted and stuck to a cheese steak, John and Jo enjoyed the real Argentinian steaks, and we all loved the Malbec that went with it.
We went to bed fulfilled but exhausted and hoping for a good night's sleep as we had to get up very early the next morning to catch the flight south to El Calafate...
