Wow, Wow, Wow, is all I can say what a fantastic time I have had in Sydney, and I did it all an my own!! I am so proud of myself!!!
Right so where do I begin…lets start from the beginning ha ha!! My Cousin Rachel dropped me off at the airport on Monday afternoon and for a moment I though I wasn’t going to make it as the traffic was really bad. Well I did make it and I was scared stiff going through departures…more scared than I ever was leaving England…..So I got on the plane and as soon as I did I relaxed, then I started listening to MY SONG which is Kelly Clarkson – Breakaway make sure you listen to it if you haven’t heard it before as it is such a great song and is really suited to me on my travels!! So I started listening to it just as I was getting near to Sydney and I got all teary eyed thinking I can’t believe I am doing this…I never thought I would be able to do something like this on my own!!! It wasn’t tears of sadness they were tears of excitement, nervousness and happiness and thinking this is the beginning of the rest of my life. I just thought if I can do this I can do anything!! The flight was brilliant, just as I was flying into Sydney we hit a thunder storm it was fantastic to see the streak lightening across Sydney. I took a few sneaky photos when the plane had just left Melbourne, it was such a lovely day and the clouds looked so fluffy and wonderful!!
Then it was touch down in Sydney and I got off the plane shaking I was so nervous, so I got my bags and waited for an hour in the taxi rank. The taxi ended up costing a fortune and the hotel was only about 5 miles from the airport!! So I got to the hotel, checked in and went up to my room…..I was really chuffed with the hotel room and the first thing I did was go out onto the balcony to look at the view I had…but because it was tipping it down with rain I couldn’t see much. By this time it was about 9pm so I went out for a little walk to try and find something to eat for dinner, because of the storm it was practically pitch black out on the road and I didn’t have a clue where I was so I walked up and down the road about 20 times trying to figure out what to have for dinner…in the end I just got a pizza and took it back to my room and watched a DVD!!! (Nothing changes ha ha!!)
The next day (Tuesday) I got up really early as I wanted to do some exploring, so I decided to walk from the hotel which is in a place called Glebe to Darling Harbour which is where the Aquarium and Museum are not where the Bridge and the Opera House are. So I finally got to Darling Harbour I think after about 40mins and it was gorgeous…I could see the aquarium from the bridge at Darling Harbour and thought it would be a good idea to go there as the weather was crap!!!! I was loving every minute of it, taking all of it in and thinking I can’t believe I am doing this I am so lucky and so brave!!!! The Aquarium was brilliant and I must have spent a good 4 hours there. After I had finished at the aquarium I thought that I should go and see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Opera House, so I had my map in front of me and thought it doesn’t look that far so I will walk…the road I had to walk down was George Street, it must be the longest street in the world, it just went on forever….but as I walked round the corner and got onto Circular Quay where the Bridge and the Opera House are I was blown away it was just amazing to see…..I have seen it on the TV many times but nothing could beat seeing it in real life it was the most amazing thing ever and that point of seeing it will be a memory I never forget!!!! So I just walked around looking at them both just being amazed by their beauty!! After I had spent a couple of hours looking at them I thought it was time to get back to the hotel….so I decided to catch a bus as I wanted to go to a shop that I saw at Darling Harbour well it took 45mins on the bus to go down George Street it would have been quicker if I had walked, so by the time I got there the shop was shut and I didn’t know where the bus was to get back to the hotel so I thought I would walk and it was getting quite dark by this point!!! But I did walk and it felt like forever, I’m sure it was twice as long on the way back as what I had walked that morning…but I eventually got back to the hotel and just crashed after spending 10 hours walking that day!!! That night I sat with all my brochures and worked out what I was going to do the following day.
The following day (Wednesday) I got up really early for breakfast in the hotel thinking that I would only be down there for about 20mins as that was my plan but I ended up spending over an hour down at breakfast talking to the waiter who was really sweet and made me feel really welcome……one of the things I remember saying after he had offered to make me a cup of coffee and said do I take milk and sugar , I said just milk thanks I am sweet enough already…and he said to me yeah I can see that!!! What a flirt I am ha ha!!!! Anyway after breakfast I thought I am not doing all that walking again like yesterday so I caught the bus into Circular Quay planning on climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge…when I got there I went into the information centre and checked with the Bridge Climb people to see if there was a spare spot…and there was so I went straight there and within 10mins I was getting ready the climb the Bridge….I was petrified to say the least!!! Its amazing what they do they breathalyse you first to make sure you haven’t been drinking and then you have to put on these all in one suits and you are not allowed to take anything up the bridge with you not even a tissue, it all has to be their equipment and be attached to you securely…….very weird. So I wasn’t able to take a camera up with me which was a shame as the view just blew me away!!! Well it was a 3 and a half hour climb up and down you don’t go all the way across you go up one side and then back down the same side but the other side of the bridge if that makes sense!! It was really hard work and you have to be pretty fit to do it and I have to admit it was a lot harder than what I thought it would be, but well worth it!! So after I had finished and I was back on land my legs were like jelly for about 2 hours after as it was really scary and I couldn’t stop them from shaking, but there was still loads I wanted to see and do that day so I got on a bus to Bondi Beach, it was an amazing beach, pure white sand and it was really weird because as soon as I got there the weather seemed to change and the sun just beamed down, it was gorgeous and I would have loved to have been able to spend a day sun bathing, but I still had stuff to do and had to catch the bus back to Circular Quay to catch the last ferry out around the harbour and watch the sun set and see the Bridge and the Opera House all lit up in night lights and although I was knackered by this point and just wanted to get back to the hotel and go to sleep it was well worth the wait as it was beautiful to see!! So that night I got back to the hotel and tried to pack as I had to be up really early the next day to get to a different hotel to do the Blue Mountains tour I had booked at the information centre…..but I was so tired I just had to crash out and get up really early the next day to pack before I left.
So the next day (Thursday) my last day in Sydney, I got up at 5am to pack and leave the hotel to get to the meeting point for 7.30am and I made it…I don’t know how as I was shattered but was loving every minute of my adventure!!! We headed out on the mini bus and it was quite a drive to the Mountains so the first thing we did was go to the Olympic Stadium where the 2000 Olympics had been held and that was great to see, after that we headed to a little town to have a coffee before heading onwards to the Mountains when we got to the mountains we had the chance to ride on all three rides to see different views of the Mountains so first we went on the Skyway which has a glass bottom so you can see how far up you are (which was nothing after climbing the Bridge!!!) then you go on the Railway which was in the Guinness Book of Records for being the steepest railway in the world it was at a 58degree angle and I have to say was a bit scary!!!! Then you walk around the bush land seeing what it was like and finding out all kinds of interesting facts, next you get on the cable way which takes you back to the mini bus. We got back on the bus and then headed to Echo Point which I have to say has the best view of the mountains and I found out that the reason the Blue Mountains are called the Blue Mountains is because when you look at them they look blue as you can see from some of the photos…….and the reason they are blue is because the Eucalyptus Trees let off a gas which makes the Mountains look blue in colour. You also got to see the three sisters which are the three rocks on top of the mountains which I have taken a lot of photos of and if you get the time read the article I took a picture of about the myth behind the three sisters its amazing really!!!! So after Echo Point we headed to see the Bores Head which to me looks more like I dragons head than a bores head but it looked amazing and some people even call it the mother-in-laws head ha ha!!! After all of that it was time to head back to catch a ferry to take us back to Circular Quay so we get on the ferry and I was thinking that’s good timing as I could sit and relax back at the quay for a bit before catching my train to take me to the airport, and guess what happens……….the bloody ferry goes and brakes down!!! Well for a while I thought what if I miss my plane and after about 2 seconds of panic I just thought well what ever happens happens and if I end up having to stay in Sydney another night then what a bonus!!! But the next ferry picked us up and I got on the train and got to the airport in time few!!!!! My plane didn’t land until 11pm that night so it was a long day for me and an exhausting three days but well worth it. That night I stayed at my Aunt and Uncles and had a nice long lie in knowing that I had to go on the Santa Pub Crawl that evening!!!!!
So I know it has been a long journal and I hope I haven’t bored you to much with all that I have been up to……..See the next journal to here all about my night out on my Santa Pub Crawl and my plans over the next few weeks.
