We stayed here for 2 nights, there wasn't much in Bundaberg, just lots of shops and the Bundaberg barrel, but Mon Repos was brilliant, it was just 15 mins out of Bundaberg and it was a turtle rookery. The campsite we had was right next to Mon repos beach and after 6 o clock the public cant use it. We did a little tour it cost us $8 each which is nothing, there is a little information bit telling you all about turtles with pictures etc and then when a turtle comes onto the beach you go down and see it.From November - January turtles comes out of the sea and lay their eggs on the beach, You see them coming out of the waves and going up to the dunes, then they make a body pit and start digging, you have to kind of hide until they start digging and then you can go behind them. We watched it dig out the egg chamber and lay about 120 eggs. After the turtle has laid 25 eggs it's totally relaxed and people can go in front of it while it's doing its business, they don't disturb it at all. After the turtle laid the eggs it just lay there for about 20 mins ( lazy git lol) and then started covering up the egg chamber and then it just goes back into the sea, the eggs start hatching in January, I wish we would have been there then to see them all it would have been brilliant. I thought it was fantastic seeing the turtles cause it was in the wild.. So far we have seen Turtles, Crocodiles, Kangaroos, Cassowaries and Dingoes in the wild.
