Joanna's Travels
Hello from the snow!!!!
Travelled down to Ohakune, Mount Ruapehu (also known as "Mount Doom" if youre an LOTR fan!) on Saturday with Miki and Beej - about a four hour journey form Auckland and I was sat in the back as entertainment for baby Mathias.
Stayed at a bach (the NZ term for a 'holiday home' and pronounced "batch" for those that dont know!!) near the bottom of the mountains in the hope of doing some snowboarding..... didnt get there in time to do any on Saturday, but did make it in time to get to The Powderkeg to watch the All Blacks v. Australia, yeah!! I have turned into a true All Blacks fan: will have to keep my voice down when I go to any matches in OZ....!!!!!
After the match, Miki and I met up with some friends of hers and we went to a bar called Margueritas and then back to their bach - which was a converted, old railway station waiting room and the toilet was an actual cubicle from an aeroplane - the whole actual thing, with the sink and all the compartemnts and everything! Cool!!
Sunday arrived but the weather was AWFUL! Beej and Keith went up to Whakapapa (and yes, the 'Wh' is pronounced 'F'.. te he he) but it was too wet for me to bother! Then on Monday I went up in the morning, with Beej, Keith, Rachel and baby Billy (Miki stayed at the bach with Mathias), in the hope of getting my first snowboarding lesson, but the visibility was sooooooooooo bad that we didnt stay longer than 20 mins before driving back down: guess I'll just have to wait til I get to Queenstown to do some boarding now.
Back in One Tree Hill now.... I met up with Dannii here last Thursday and we went to a friend of hers' for a BBQ and then out to a cheesy 70's club called Boogie Wonderland - it had the chequered, flashing coloured floor and everything!!! It was also, unfortunately, empty - as no one seems to go out unless it's a Friday or Saturday in central Auckland!
All shopped out now, but have certaily got enough warm clothes now to fill my rucksack three times.... will definitley be sending a large parcel home before I leave to go to OZ (please let the wetaher be warm there in October!), we had hail here in Auckland today!
Hope everyone is safe and well.
Lots of love
