Day 5 we made our way to Krakow via Auschwitz. We watched Schindler's List in preparation. Auschwitz was a hard place emotionally and mentally to visit. We had discussed the night before the importance Of letting whatever emotions you felt come through because it's such a hard place to visit. We saw the barracks, the roll call area (the Appelplatz), the gas chambers, the solitary cells, the destroyed gas chambers, and the memorials at Birkenau before leaving. It was a powerful experience. We then had a great chicken dinner at a traditional restaurant. We got to the hotel, checked in and had an early evening.
