Jamie's Central and South American Adventures
Today I hiked around Manuel Antonio NP. Let's just say I now need to figure out how to burn a couple cds worth of pictures because I am totally out of memory! Everywhere I stepped there were hermit crabs crawling around. I found serveral iguanas just sitting in the middle of the trail, posing for all my shots. ;-) oh, and I finally saw a coati today! It got a little freaked out and ran right by me when all the tourists started sqealing and running. People get crazy! Also saw a racoon fairly close to the coati. I'm pretty sure the park employees plant food for them near the trails. Bad for the animals, good for PR and conservation(?)... I guess.... not really sure how to justify it. Anyway, I hiked up to the top of the main hill in the park for some amazing views! As soon as I figure out how to get my pictures on to the Costa Rican computers, I'll try to post a few. Oh, and last thing, I saw a sloth today! And not just any sloth. It was climbing to the end of it's tree when it reached out to the telephone/power lines above the road. It let go of the tree and just hung there on the power lines. Pretty soon it moved towards the end of the power lines where it reached the transformer. (Don't worry, this story does have a good ending!) I could hear soft zapping noises as it tried to get around the transformer. After about 30 minutes of this poor sloth trying to get somewhere of the power line, it finally found the diagonal lines going to the ground. I was relieved to not have to collect a zapped sloth. So these have ben my adventures of the last few days. The internet cafe is about to close so I am calling it a day. I miss you all and will see you soon! I'm almost one whole month into my two-month trip. I can't believe it's gone by so fast. Well, see you all soon! -Jamie
