Jamie's Central and South American Adventures
I finally made it to Manuel Antonio! I suppose I should start with the end of my La Suerte stay. We left the station early on the 13th after a few days of writing papers and having parties. My time in San Jose was fun. It was our last minute rush to see and do everything in one day. We all went out to dinner together at Tin-Jo, the best Pan-Asian restaurant in the world. Some would say it might change your life. It did mine. Thai curry with chicken, enough said. A few if us stayed up all night talking and having a great time. We all wished we had another week to just get to know each other better and have fun. The following morning saw a few tearful good-byes as the taxis took people to the airport. I I can honestly say that I liked everyone at La Suerte. Of course, as happens with groups like this, the were a couple of unfortunate incidences involving some aspect of my room. Not with my roomates. My roomates were the best I could have hoped for! But even though curtains were stolen and doors were kicked at midnight, I still enjoyed all the people at La Suerte. I miss my fellow primate geeks already!
I travelled with 2 of the girls to Manuel Antonio on the 14th. It took 8 hours of travel time for what should have been a 3.5 hour buss ride. We arrived early for the noon direct bus to find it sold out so we waited 2 hours for the longer indirect bus. When we finally reached the hostel we we welcomed by everyone. There was a BBQ and good music. The girls and I made friends with two Italian guys who shared our dorm room. Super nice people! We saw them around town a bit yesterday when we went to the beach and they made us dinner last night before we all went out. They even gave us their email addresses so we can keep in touch. Last night the girls and I went out to listen to some local music at a restaurant down the street. Carrie tried to teach me salsa and cumbia. The meringue was just not happening. Tons of fun! Everyone here is very nice and Manuel Antonio is gorgeous!
