Hey everyone. I know you were probably worried but its ok I did survive my bungy jump I've just been busy so haven't been able to update this thing. As it turned out i didn't get to do the Nevis Highwire which was the 134m bungy jump out of the gondola that i wanted to do. We got all the way up there (about a 40 minute drive) only to be told that there was a problem with the winch that winches jumpers back up after the jump. Instead I did the Kawarau bridge jump which is the worlds oldest commercial bungy site. Its 43m high which is perfectly high enough and you can choose whether you want to go into the water of the Kawarau River at the bottom of the jump. I obviously decided to get wet and as a result got dunked up to my waist. The water was freezing but it didn't matter coz the adrenalin made up for the cold. It was amazing but a really weird feeling just throwing myself off of a bridge. I've got the DVD of my jump if anyone wants to see it when i get home.
Whilst in Queenstown I also went white water rafting. I wanted to do the Shotover river which is grade 3-5 rapids (rapids are graded from 1-6) but the day I did it the water was too low so I did the Kawarau river instead which is grade 3. It was awesome. The rapids were good fun but hard work. Also the scenery was amazing and the water was crystal clear. At one point we were coasting along and the guide said we could jump in for a swim if we wanted so i jumped in. It was freezing but I was wearing a wetsuit so it was ok and it was pretty cool just floating along in the water.
I also got the gondola to the top of Bobs peak which is a mountain that overlooks Queenstown. From there the views were breath taking and at the top they have a Luge track which was really fun just bombing downhill in a little cart. I also bumped into a guy called Chris who i first met on my Fraser Island tour but also bumped into again in the whitsundays and again in Auckland. I ended up going for a drink with him and the people on his bus which was a good laugh. We did a pub quiz which we were rubbish at but we got a free drink for shouting the loudest when he read out the team names!
Then last wednesday i got the bus to Christchurch which took 8 and a half hours but wasn't too bad. Christchurch was quite cool and whilst there i went to the Christchurch art gallery and the Canterbury museum. How cultured am i?! They were both pretty interesting actually and more importantly they were both free admission! I also got the gondola to the top of Mt Cavendish and went walking around there which was good coz it stopped raining as i got to the top and the sun came out and there were some really nice views. I also went to the cinema a couple of times to see Bobby which was alright but a bit boring and 28 Weeks Later which was good but not as good as 28 Days Later.
I then got the bus to Picton on saturday which is a town right at the top of the south island and it took 5 and a half hours to get there. I only spent 40 minutes there though coz i then got the interislander ferry to Wellington which is the capital of New Zealand and is right at the bottom of the north island. The ferry took 3 hours and was quite rough but it was really nice inside and it even had a cinema on board.
Once in Wellington I met up with Jammo and his mate Shorty whose at university there. I arrived at 9pm and we ended up going to the pub to watch the super 14 semi finals. However, coz they were both in South africa they weren't on till 1am and 3.30am so i didn't get to bed till 5.30am. As a result the next day was mostly spent in bed. We did get the cable car up to the top in the afternoon to see the view and we went to Shortys office for free internet. That evening we watched anchorman on tv then had an early night.
The next day we didn't do much again coz we were trying to save money but we did go bowling which I came last at and Jammo came out of nowhere in the last frame to win. That night we played monopoly which was fun coz i kept winning! The next day we went to Wellington zoo which was quite cool but not as good as Taronga zoo in Sydney. However it was only $10 so can't complain. We then played monopoly again in the evening which i finally lost a couple of times then got an early night.
The next day me and Jammo got a bus back up to Auckland which took 11 hours. We did get to see Mt Doom from the lord of the rings films though which was cool. However it was mostly covered by clouds so i didn't bother taking a photo. I am now back in auckland and not doing much. Last night we went for a few beers in the pub Gary works at so he could say goodbye to his workmates. I'm going to the cinema tonight to see Zodiac which should be good. Then we're off to Fiji tomorrow. Hopefully will be better weather there so maybe i will come home with a tan after all.
