just got caught up on your blogs and photos - you've been busy! really enjoying these updates and i'm envious of your trip to spain -- paella and sangria sound pretty great right about now and something tells me it's 1000 times better there than at jaleo. nice digs, btw! looks bigger than nancy's room in her nyc apartment....

Hey Jason,
The Middle Passage observance sounds pretty incredible and something that should be done in schools to create a dialogue. I cannot imagine the particular power it must have while on the sea and actual route.
In many ways, you have lived through experiences in the past couple of weeks that some never have in a lifetime. I feel like each day is filled with so much adventure and reflection. Just watching the ocean as you were on the deck is such a gift in and of itself. And I don't think it will ever become for you a tired experience. I see you posting on your last day of the voyage a similar statement of appreciation for the gift of being able to appreciate the beauty of the open waters.
I appreciate the part of your hear that shines so clearly in your posts. I feel like I'm having the opportunity to grow closer to you, in mind, through your thoughts and reflections on the trip, and that is a gift to me. Hope the marathon goes well in Capetown!

hey jase, you should be running (driving) around namibia as i type. hopefully with a GUIDE if you are driving up to lions and such on a safari. but anyway, ain't nuthin i can do from nyc, so i just pray you are safe. i've never heard of "the middle passage." i wonder if it's new since F04 or we just missed the boat on at one? regardless, it sounds incredibly powerful. i was really moved reading your blog. especially the images of your student eating brefix early in the morning on her (his?) own staring out into the water. i can picture it -- and no doubt, her thoughts were stirring. i really think they hit the jackpot with you an RD this year (living learning coordinator or whatever the hell they call it now). you're doing amazing things to build that community jase -- as always. love you.

I finna ball up my kids again at the YMCA tomorrow morning. Last time I played, the shoes provided excellent support, but I think that they are a lil too tyte on the balls of my feet (causing blisters). I was about to use a coupon at "Richard's" Sporting Goods yesterday because of a $10 off $50 purchase cou-oupon that I found online in order to purchase new shoes, but then I decided not to.
I know that you specifically told us not to post questions, but have you ever had shoes that were too tyte? If so, hwat did you do about it? I googled it and found that people use shoe stretchers and that sort of thing but I don't think that is a viable option since the contraptions used to do so cost more than the shoes that I purchased.

Thanks for answering my questions jase.
Morocco: Did you make up the term "glamping"? You were accosted by a man to come visit his home and you went by yourself? I definitely remember folks yello "Japonese" and "Konichiwa" wherever I went, with the variation here and there of "Chino" -- surprised you didn't get that in Spain.
How come you didn't blog about to post any pics of neptune day? Did you shave your head? Going backwards, you guys crossed the equator a lot earlier than we did -- so i wonder whether in general less folks participate in the spring voyage than the fall (when by then they have more time to become comfortable with one another and act all-out crazy).

Enjoying your blog and pics.Morocco seems to be a more liberal Islamic country if they're allowing foreigners (especially women) to walk around freely in western clothes.Your pics remind me a lot of the open bazaars and roaming animals in India.Did the animals or butcher shop freak any of the students out?(Any converts to vegetarianism?)
I noticed everyone was wearing long sleeve jackets or sweat shirts. Was that because of the weather or were you trying not offend the natives.
FYI - Many muslims do not like to have their picture taken because its forbidden in the Quran and considered "haram" or a sin.Basically it prevents people from image/idol worshipping. This may explain why some people didn't like you taking pictures of them. So, keep that in mind on your future stops (i.e. india).

Yeah, patiently (smile) awaiting your blog. in the meantime, the sahara sunset pic is pretty hot -- though the dangling cow feet is really disturbing. The pics are great though and get the feel for the parts of morocco you saw. btw, while i gues you didn't get to "ride" camels, you still got to see them apparently. . .
