Wednesday was a simple day. I woke up and did my sketching homework and then went to class as usual. After class I picked up some pasta and sauce and cooked it for myself for dinner. I made way too much! After dinner I went to the gym and came home to get some rest.
Today was a lot busier than yesterday. I woke up early to meet my fashion class at the Ponte Vecchio, then we walked over to Pitti Palace, where the Medicis once lived. My teacher brought us to the Costume Gallery part of the museum and showed us various garments of the different time periods. This was very interesting! After our tour we had an assignment to sketch our favorite piece that we saw in the museum. We used this sketch in class later today.
After walking through the Costume Gallery we were able to explore the palace's Boboli Gardens for a few minutes. The gardens were beautiful and had the best view of Florence that I've seen yet. I definitely will be going back to Pitti Palace when i have more time to explore the gardens more and visit the royal apartments.
We left the Boboli Gardens and had break in between the next class. I used this time to find an iPhone charger, since my converter blew mine out. I had to wait 45 minutes in Vodaphone to just buy the charger! It is definitely noticeable that Italians are very relaxed about time. I then walked to the gym and luckily got in a workout during this busy day. After the gym I went to the post office to mail some postcards. This was the most confusing thing ever since everything was in Italian, which i couldn't understand. Somehow I managed to buy stamps and follow the lady's instructions to put the postcards in a red box outside the post office. Lets hope I did this correctly and that they don't get lost in the mail! After mailing the postcards I then picked up a delicious salad and fresh lemon granita nearby, then showered and went straight to class.
We spent our class time learning how to color in our fashion sketches that we have been working on for the past two weeks. My teacher then have us a new assignment. We have to create two looks, a day and an evening, that are inspired by our favorite piece that we sketched from Pitti Palace. I finished the rough sketches of my looks, but I am going to work on them more over the weekend.
Once class was over I went with my roommate to pick up the art supplies I am going to need for this project and later ones that we will be assigned. Now that we know how to sketch the body and clothes we are starting to design out own garments and get really creative. I definitely want to keep this going once I leave Florence. It will be my new hobby!
I picked up groceries at the supermarket for dinner and brought them back to the apartment to eat before our next meeting for class. I met my teacher by the Piazza Repubblica and we walked over to an art gallery. She brought us here so that we would have inspiration for our designs and final project that we will be doing. The art exhibit was based on the theme "beauty" and showcased various artist's interpretation of the subject. This was unlike anything I expected. What I would picture as beautiful was extremely different from any of the art in the exhibit. It was interesting to see others interpretations and to try to wrap my head around the sometimes crazy concepts. I have not seen that much contemporary art, so it was a nice contrast from the paintings Florence is known for.
Tomorrow my roommate and I are planning to stay around Florence and explore hopefully the Uffizi and St. Croce. I am craving fresh pasta so I am hoping to end the day with a delicious Italian meal. On Saturday we are planning to go to Siena and Rome. My tour guide for Venice said that Rome has the best pizza, so I will definitely try that out. On Sunday we are planning to go to Cinque Terre which is supposed to be beautiful right on the ocean. We want to go here and relax by the beach. I will keep updated throughout the weekend! Ciao! XOXO
