So here we are in Oslo. The photo is the view of the Opera House from our room. It is one of the better-known architectural structures in Oslo. It is on the harbor-front, so we can the Oslofjord as well. My photo, as Chad has just now pulled out the fancy camera. We plan to walk down to the harbor tomorrow.
Our European premiere will happen in one hour. Luckily our hotel is a block away from the cinema so I have a little time. Chad is supposed to introduce the film, and then hopefully we'll go grab a bite to eat and then come back for the Q&A. I'm curious whether the questions here will be different than at other screenings.
Our travel here was uneventful. The fest sent a very nice man named Andreus to meet us at the airport and travel with him to the city center via train. He is about our age and a PhD student studying policy economics, s he's excited to see The Pruitt-Igoe Myth at tomorrow's screening. He and Chad hit it off really well. The fest director, Tommy, met us at our hotel, and let us know all was set for he screening. It is an interesting festival - no filmmaker check-in, or badges, or any of that. Tommy said our names would be on a list that would get us in to fest-stuff. Several of the docs we were on the circuit with this spring are here - Page One, Dragonslayer, Where Soldiers Come From, etc. - so we feel The Pruitt-Igoe Myth is in good company.
After checking into our room we dropped off our stuff and decided to explore a bit. We walked up Karl Johan's Gate, Oslo's most famous street. It is a little like Times Square, full of international stores and restaurants. We also glimpsed the Royal Palace and walked past the National Theatre and the City Hall, a mid-century modern building that apparently the locals love to hate.
We picked up lunch on our way back to the hotel. Food is crazy expensive here. Luckily our hotel includes breakfast. Then we napped a bit to refresh for the screening tonight.
Our hotel is a nice budget option, clean but older. There's free coffee and tea in the lobby, which we're enjoying now to perk up ahead of the screening. It's about time to head that way. We'll let y'all know how it goes.
