Although a little (a lot) uncomfortable, we survived our overnight coach to Melbourne.
With our one day in Melbourne before heading along the great ocean, we went exploring the sidestreets and alleys that are crammed with little boutique shops and cafes. We also visited Federation Square. Melbourne is a really cool city. A bit like a sleepy London. Lots of people in the day, but people actually go home to bed at night. Apparently, Sydney is named the brains of Australia, Melbourne is the heart. We could see why. It is a lovely city.
Our trip along the great ocean road began the next day, with a 6 hour drive inland to Portland. There was not much to see or do in Portland.so little, in fact, that we ended up sleeping in our car. If we thought the night in the coach was bad, we had not experienced a cold rainy night in a car! It's all part of the fun. We must thank the 'Spud Train' for providing us with the only thing we could find to eat that night...It was delicious!
From Portland, though, the Great Ocean Road did not dissapoint. Port Fairy was pretty. We went for a long morning walk there and had lunch in a lovely little cafe with delicious cakes! Along the coast from Warnambool, we visited Childers Cove, Bay of Islands, The Arch, London Bridge, Loch Ard Gorge and 12 Apostles...All different kinds of rock formations along the coast. Sounds maybe a bit boring, but pretty spectactular!
Lorne, Apollo Bay and Torquay offered more beautiful oceans, waterfalls and budgies! The great ocean road is gorgeous. Surprisingly different from the East Coast.
When we arrived back in Melbourne, we decided we would celebrate our last night in Sydney with a trip to an ice bar! It was a lovely ending to a beautiful part of our holiday. Australia is so different from home but we have loved every minute. Now time for NZ...Looking forward to seeing what that brings!
We hope everything is okay at home. Christmas will soon be with us!
Love you all xxxxx
