So back from the brink of civilization and into the oven that is Kuching. Fredo has given us yet another different room at Borneo bed and breakfast and this time the aircon is more like.... well aircon! In the last room it was like a 20a day smoker exhaling on us. Speaking of which I am actually smoking more? Maybe it's because I'm out of my comfort zone. I don't know. I will quit before oz though! We had a nice stroll around the resivoir park today. Saw some nice butterflies and some nasty wasps(I swear they get bigger every time we see one) and had a look round the cultural museums. There was also an aquarium to rouse which was ok but I disagreed with some of the animals they had, such as the alligators and the lone macaque monkey. Not that I argued with them or owt. I'm sure we share slot of the same views bit it was the cages they were in. They were so small but I guess we're not in England anymore so that sort of thing has to be expected sometimes. We met yet another German man in our hostel who advised us to do the kayaking trip. 8 hours up the river and they take you to see some river dolphins and an orangutan rehab centre so I think we'll be doing that next week. Again, i dont think its the sort of rehab Charlie Sheen needs. More teaching them to survive on their own. (maybe that is what he needs...).
We seem to be squeezing alot in the short time we have been here so maybe will be going to Australia sooner than expected. We'll have to see. So far we have spent about £300 which is more than we wanted but with a budget of about £1000 for a month and having done so much already we're not doing too badly. Probably have to tighten the purse strings a bit more in Australia an get a job sooner than we would have liked. Having a rest at the minute in a coffee shop to avoid the mid day sun. It's MR8.50 a drink ( £2.00) so is quite expensive but the cold air makes it worth it. Gonna head to the Chinese supermarket for food today to make it a bit cheaper and hopefully avoid the dodgy local food. I bet it's not all dodgy but the places we have budgetted for are cheap and cheerful so probably don't use the freshest of ingreedients.
