We woke up early and started to put the suitcases in the car. Dad seemed to be the only one who was able to organize them in a Tetris formation that fit and would allow the trunk door to close. The van was nice, most of the doors were automatic.
So when the trunk door started to close on my dad he yelled; " Jessica!! What the hell are you doing!"
I was standing behind him looking bewildered and confused as I put chap stick on my lips.
HE was the one holding the keys and pushed the button himself, and in a fit of panic blamed poor little me, I guess due to my proximity. hehehe
We had breakfast at a place called Elmers, which was a nice little local spot (we thought! until we saw one up in Eugene!) Our breakfast conversation turned very deep, having to do with politics and religion.
After we ate, we got back on the road and headed to Crater Lake; the scenery was beautiful and was turning greener and greener. We saw a mountain in the distance and someone asked, "What's that mountain over there?" Paige responded, "Paige's Mountain of Awesome!" hehehe
We arrived at the park and paid the fee to the nice park rangers.
Mom thinks all park rangers sound Australian by the way! hehehe
Crater Lake was beautiful! Apparently we arrived a few days after they plowed half the lake's roads. Which meant if we had come a week earlier we probably wouldn't have been able to get in! There were still snow banks 12 ft deep and the east side of the lake still wasn't plowed yet. So we have some great photos of us in our shorts standing in the snow.
After taking a lot of pictures, getting the history of the lake through some regular visitors and having my tattoo photographed by some random fella who claimed he was a journalist; we headed to Eugene!
We went through some beautiful forests and saw some breathtaking lakes. We stopped at pitstop for food and a root beer float.
Amanda and I flitted through a roadside flee market and saw some neat antiques.
We finally made it to the hotel where we would be staying the next couple of nights. Becky went for a run while Paige, Amanda and I went for a swim!
Then it was time for our surprise Father's Day dinner at the Bates Steakhouse.
We all dawned our quirky ties I found at a thrift store, to symbolize that this year we were the dads and going to pay for his dinner! hehe
The atmosphere was great, we reminisced on all things dad, and our travels, It was a great time!
Afterwards we went to Michelle's apartment to greet her and the Bittendorfer / Olsen family! Our long time friends from the Netherlands!
We left Amanda to stay with her best friend and made plans to meet for breakfast in the morning.
Paige, Becky and I watched Crazy Stupid Love and passed out!
