11/11/10 Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh

Said our goodbyes to our friends and set off for Phnom Penh the capital. Long coach journey, arrived in the dark, early to bed.

12/11/10 Phnom penh

Went to S21/Tuol Sleng today. it is the school the Khymer rouge (Pol Pot) used to imprison traitors to his regime in the 70's. It was horrendous. the first cell we went into was a picture of the guy dead in his cell on the wall, his stomach cut open. His bed was just as they left it, and the knife they used was on the floor. our guide pointed out the blood splattered on the ceiling, we were all fighting back the tears after the first 5 mins. we saw the gallows they hung people from, yhe torture equipment and heard all about the stories of the individuals who died there. i had absoultely no idea about cambodias history, it was so interesting if not distressing, our guide taught us so much. This evening we went for dinner at a restaurant where street children have been trained as chefs, food was amazing, had three cocktails, it's for a good cause. Our friends arrived tonight again.

Viisited the Killing Fields today where all the porfessioanl people, Drs etc and people against the regime were taken to be killed in the 70's. Its a small field filled with deep pits which were the mass graves, some have been excavated for evidence. There are still bits of the peoples clothes and bones lying on the floor as everytime the monsoon season comes more gets brought to the surface. Some people were decapitated, there abdomens slit open and just pushed into the graves. tney killed all memebers of the family so there would be no revenge from the children. There was a tree where they used to swing babies and hit their heads on the tree and then drop them onto spikes. This is the worst place I have ever been in my life and It was only 40 years ago it all happened!!!! had to say goodbye to our friend Alex today who is heading back to Oz, hopefully will see him when we get there. then we found out our friend ryan was in hospital with a foot abcess so we all headed there, it's been a pretty tough couple of days! off out tonight, suprise suprise, ended up in a club and set my friend up with a cambodian girl and her friend, turns out she was a prostitute and her pimp! whoops, so funny!
