Hey,
Well we are now in Ko Tao which is a small island that is north of Ko Phan Ghan. It is a little more chilled out, and we are having a great time here. Anyway, I shall let you read on....
May 11th- Arrival in Ko Tao
Today we got up early and Amber, Caz, Sabs, Georgia, Amos and I got a taxi to our boat over to Ko Tao. The queue for the boat was insane, it seemed that everyone was trying to leave Had Rin at the same time of us. Who could blame them really though? After the full moon the beach was littered with buckets, bottles and bodies, and the atmosphere was exhausted. I think everyone knew that a bit of TLC in Tao was on the cards.
We eventually got on our boat, but unfortunately had to bid farewell to Caz as she was meeting some other friends in Ko Phi Phi. It was quite sad, as she was a laugh and a half. The boat was about 2 hours, and we slept all the way.
Upon exiting the boat, after nearly wetting outselves laughing at various backpackers trying to haul their bags out of the massive 8 ft pile that had accumulated at the back of the boat, we were mobbed by taxi drivers. Eventually we climbed into the back of a carrier truck (yes mum... it may be dangerous to be in an open air carrier truck but cheap as chips is my moto these days) and it took us to Sairee Beach, which is the main backpacker area. We found some bungalows and dumped our bags there, they were AC and could tightly fit 5 people in them... but we had it in our minds to look elsewhere.
We went to a cute place for sandwiches, and as we left we saw a nice looking hotel called Silver Sands. We thought there is no harm in looking... so we did. And my god. The man at the counter (who was western, which is always a good start) told as their were no bungalows, but the luxury suite was avaliable. Spurred on by our curiousity we said we would take a look. Well. It was beautiful. Power Shower, Widescreen TV, huge beds, fridge, pink and green walls, windows, no cockroaches.... it was pure luxury. It was 50 quid a night, which between us came to 10 quid each... only 2 more than the cramped bungalows. So we thought sod it, we need some luxury and this willl be great after the full moon party, and took it.
The problems arose when we went back to the other place to collect our bags. A rather batty old lady was there, and therefore we could not do the typical snatch and run job. She followed us to our bungalow, after Gerogia said we were not staying there, and kept shouting in pigeon english "you pay now" "swicth air- you pay now" "switch air" "now".... I have to say, she had one of the most annoying thai old peoples voices ever...it hurt my ears. After a couple of minutes of this, we figured she must be asking for money for our brief stay in the bungalow, and we tested the AC so we have to pay for it. Well... that did not go down too well with us, as we had not stayed more than an hour. So we put our bags on our backs, and waltzed down the street, with the batty lady following us and assulting the bottoms of our bags (all she could reach bless her) shouting alot. It was when she stopped two rather hard looking thai men and told them about the situation that things got nasty. They said they were calling the police. So we chucked 200 baht at them (4 quid) and ran off. Oh, how bridget jones we must of looked.
Our room is the beez neez. I love it. We rotate who gets the best beds, and all share and share alike. I have never seen so many bottles on the sink tho, my god we could open a pharmacy!
In the evening I had a lovely chat with Mr Liam, and then we went to an Irish Bar for a rather noisy meal. The acoustic guitarist was good, but rather a loud australian man, heart of gold im sure but a quiter mike may have complimented him more! We went home for an early night, and watched 'wanted' as we fell into our slumbers.'
May 12th- Day at the beach
Today we investigated the near by beach and did abit of sunbathing. Georgia and I went shopping, and I bought a new red bikini, which is ever so bay watch! Whilst the other girls chilled, I accompanied Georgia to meet her sisters old friend, as her sister used to be a diving instructer in Tao 3 years ago and wanted georgia to meet Poli. Poli was lovely, and Israeli dive instructer who gave us tons of great advice about the island and what there is to do.
In the evening we had a KILLER meal at a place called Portobello. It was an Italian place, and the lovely manager was so sweet to us. We got free garlic bread with our wine (oh,... the wine was a lovely change from Thai Whiskey) and the manager said we got free desserts if we were not full after our mains, which we were, but claimed not to be, and so got a free dessert tray!! It was the best meal!
We lugged our huge tummyes home, and bought counterfeit DVDs on the way (which reminds me- ben and liam, if you want some DVDs tell me which and I will get them for you). Sabs bought Gossip Girl, an NYC sitcom that is a girls idea of heaven. We watched 4 hour long episodes back to back, and loved every minute. We thought we should sample some Tao nightlife, so popped out to Lotus bar for abit, but the buckets did not sit well on our meal, and another episode of gossip girl called, so we went and watched that instead! So antisocial!
May 13th- Day at Nang Wang Island
Today we took a Taxi Boat to Nang Wang, a secluded island off the coast of Tao that is connected by a junction of beaches. We relaxed and sunbathed and snorkelled, and it was a lovely warm day! Nothing much happened, but it was cool to go on an adventure and it was very beautiful.
Tonight more gossip girl is planned and perhaps some dancing, if we can be bothered, but I highly doubt it!
I miss you all lots and hope your all safe and well. Thank you for your messages Emma, its lovely to hear from you and I hope the concert was good. Good luck wit your exams this week ben!
Love you all xxxxxxxxxxx
