I can't believe it! I am going to Satipo tonight!
I havn't been able to go because of the weather but now the busses are going. I'm quite unexpectedly going with David's friends secretary tonight. We just found out today that she is going to San Ramon (about 3 hours from Satipo) and that I can go with her on the bus. So I've packed all my stuff and I just need to get a last couple of things like biscuits for the journey and some cash! It's quite an unreal and overwhelming feeling that I am going tonight all of a sudden! I am very excited and rather nervous too, but I'm sure everything will be fine.
From now on there's no more concrete jungle! No more running for my life everytime I want to cross the street. No more men blowing their horns as they desperately try to sell ice cream and the bus driver yelling out the window trying to persuade people to jump in. No more crazy car sirens, no more endless honking and no more men whispering "Hola guapa" or "Hello, sexy lady"!
Well to be truthfull I'm not too sure what to expect of Satipo, but I'm pretty sure it won't be anything like Lima!
Though I am excited about getting out of Lima I am at the same time extremely thankful for the family having me and treating me so well for such a long time and expecting nothing in return! I've been able to have the best time as possible here in Lima thanks to them. I've learned quite a bit of Spanish, which will without a doubt be an advantage when teaching the kids and I've got to experience a part of Peru, which I think is very far from what most of the country is like.
P.s Today I passed my Spanish exam - wuhoo :-)
Wish me luck on my crazy bus ride over the snowy Andes and into the excrutiatingly hot jungle!
I can't wait to write to you all from Satipo about what it's like!
Lots of love,
Jessica
