Hello from Rotorua,
Before I got here everyone warned me how much it would smell of rotten eggs i.e suphur so I was a little bit worried when I got off the bus from Taupo but I was pleasantly surprised I couldn't smell anything.
Rotorua is a town with about 60,000 inhabitants so that's pretty big for NZ. The first night I was here I went to a Maouri village and experienced traditional dancing and singing and saw the Haki performed properly. After the entertainment we were treated to a meal of roast lamb, sweet potatoes and veggies cooked by the traditional hangi method.
The other thing I have done while I have been here is Zorbing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This involves rolling down a hill inside a plastic ball filled with water - it is actually a lot more fun than it sounds - it was invented after an evening in the pub. that explains everything. It is actually possible to remain standing up all the way done the hill and this was aptely demonstrated by our guide. When it came to my turn I managed to remain standing for about 3 strides then spent the rest of the ride srolling slooshing around at the bottom.
After all that activity a friend and I decided to rest our aching muscles in the Polynesian Spa's mineal pools and hot tubs these use the local geothermal hot waters and it was bliss. The only downside is that you do end up a bit smelly!!!
Missing you all loads can't wait to show the photos of the zorbing.
