Hi All,
I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to update the travel journal my only excuse is that I have just been really lazy, it has been so nice not to have to check my emails everyday.
I am in Sydney until Tuesday when I fly off to New Zealand. Sydney is lovely the weather is just starting to get really nice here. We have been staying in Darling Harbour which has undergone a lot of redevelopment and has loads of bars and restarants. I have been on a cruise around the harbour and am off to climb the Sydney Harbour bridge tomorrow I am a bit nervous about that but it should be fun apparently it is perfectly safe!!! I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the Opera House it wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be, possibly because the day I saw it it was a bit overcast so it looked more grey than white.
I have to say that although Sydney is nice I think Melbourne was nicer and would be a great place to live, I am sure Luke and Jen will love it there. It is very easy to get around on foot and the trams, infact the trams make it difficult to drive. We went to the races while we were in Melbourne - the Derby it was great fun a lot more relaxed than Ascot at home and I managed to win $75 which was a bonus. Dad also dragged Mum and I to the MCG and I have to saw that it was very impressivive.
We drove along The Great Ocean Road from Adelaide to Melbourne and the journey was amazing - we stopped in Mount Gambier, Port Fiary, Port Campbell and Apollo Bay. Along the way we saw the 12 Apostels although you can't actually see all 12 at once from land you can see 7 on one side and then 5 on the other side it was very windy. The other cool thing we did on the way from Adelaide was stop in Cape Otway and visit the Rainforest and walk around on the boardwalks high up in the trees. Some of the trees are amazing so tall.
I have lots of photos that I will show you all when I get home. Miss you all love jess.
I thought I would update you on what I did in my last two days in Sydney the weather was really sunny typically just as I am leaving. As the weather was so nice I decided to go and explore 'The Rocks' this is the oldest part of Sydney were the wharfies and dockers worked and many of the original buildings still stand. It was great to wander around the old streets there are lots of trendy cafes and restarants now and on Sunday there is a great craft market I had to remind myself I can't buy to much as my backpack is already packed to capacity.
At the last minute I decided to go on a guided tour of the Opera House it is truely amazing inside as well as out. The opera hall and its organ are amazing it contains 10,000 pipes and takes 8 days to tune. We also got to see the roof tiles up close and they are actually two different colours neither of which are white some are cream coloured and others are buff coloured!! I was so inspired that I booked a ticket to see the play 'Women In Mind' the next night - I tell you about it when I get home Claire it was a bit strange.
On my last day I climbed the Harbour Bridge, everyone who goes to Sydney should do this it was the best experience and completely safe. We were incredibly lucky with the weather as there was a very heavy downpour right before we started our climb but the sun came out just as we reached the summit so at least the photos look good, if a little wind sweep it was gust up to 70kmp at the top.
Anyway thats all from Australia I am off to New Zealand tomorrow.
