Following the storms from the night before we woke to find it cold, drizzling rain and no visibility at all. Not exactly the start to the day we were after. After enjoying a generous serving if breakfast the rain stopped and the clouds began to clear a little. We decided to pack some morning tea and head down the mountain a bit by foot to where the cows were grazing.
The path down was a continuous zig-zag, not too steep, but on fairly loose gravel which made it harder. It took us about 45 mins and we were at the spot we intended. Looking back up to the hotel we realised we'd travelled quite far, and still had to go back up.... We met some of the cows who were sitting around the mountainside all of which were quite tame, then found a comfy rock to have a kit-kat and take in the views. Whilst sitting there the clouds came and went. One minute we could see for miles the next no more than 100m.
Time to head back up the hill. We took it slow and it was hard work. Only about 10 degrees but we were sweating by the half way mark. Finally back on top with burning legs we decided it was time for lunch. We went to one of the cafe's on the mountain and both decided the veal schnitzel sounded good... They were so big and with so many chips we could've easily shared one, but was very tasty.
After lunch we had intended on doing some more walking round the top of the mountain, but the clouds had set in again with no visibility so we decided against that. Instead we had a rest and went through some of our previous photos.
Dinner time in the restaurant and it was beautiful. 4 courses and we were stuffed by the end! As we were finishing our main course and waiting for dessert we noticed that all the thick cloud had cleared leaving a magnificent landscape. There were some fluffy clouds below us in the valleys but we could see the alps very clearly in the background, many covered in snow. Along with most other people in restaurant we took plenty of photos. Even the staff mentioned how beautiful it was and were taking pictures themselves.
In the fading light after dinner we ran round the top of the mountain taking more photos and saw some mountain goats wandering. We have no idea how they got to where they were, but it was a long, steep way down!
