Nǐ hǎo Beijing!!
Exhausted but happy to be in Beijing we braved the local taxi service and got a guy who spoke no English at all and drove like a manic! Panic set in when you don't have to wear seat belts, people don't indicate to change lanes...kinda like qlds but worse, and then our driver starts texting and phoning our hotel to get directions. His happy smile and nodding letting us know he now knew the way.
My my the drivers in Beijing are scary and what's worse there's a tonne of people on motorbikes and pushbikes without helmets! Thrill seekers!
Thankfully we could check into our hotel early, only an hour but it meant the world to us as we were traveling on 4 hrs broken sleep within 33 hrs.
Showered with some clothes washed we headed out to see the local sights around our hotel. Getting lost in Wumart - the local hypermarket (Westfield all in one) we managed to find a few supplies including what we think are starburst and snickers :)
So far we seem to be the tourist attraction for most locals, who can't stop staring at us as we walk around.
Still haven't gotten the hang of look right, look left. Cars driving up the wrong side of the street, now that's an experience and once you've figures out the cars, then you still have to worry about the bike riders that come out of nowhere!
Tomorrows mission - forbidden city, temple of heaven and summer palace :)
