A couple of weekends back I went to the lovely town of Bath for the weekend. It's famous for a few reasons, the main one being that the Roman Baths are located there. Also, it has been known as a fashion capital during Jane Austen's time and Jane Austen actually lived there for 5 years but hated it so much that she did no writing there. Anyways, I went with my two roommates and our friend Catherine.
Our trip down to Bath was uneventful but we got there and couldn't find our Hostel. It was located above a pub and there wasn't a very distinct sign anywhere so we walked up and down the street it was on for awhile unitl we called them to find out where it was. We felt pretty dumb when we finally found it lol. We were wiped out from our day of travel so we just ate at the pub and watched some rugby before going to bed. The next day we headed for the Roman Baths. The baths were built as a temple for the goddess Minerva. The main bath actually bubbled and steamed without being heated at all and it was actually really warm when you touched it. (I don't know if you're supposed do that but I did :))
On the last day I got to visit one of the most amazing structures in the world...Stonehenge. It was a very out of body experience because I've dreamed about seeing Stonehenge my whole life and then suddenly I was there and it was as simple as jumping on a bus and driving 20 minutes from the train station in Salisburg. It was a little windy out but other than that it was an absloutely gorgeous day out. The bus driver made it clear that Stonehenge was not built by druids and their not really sure who it was but its about 5000 years old which I find insane. All of the rocks from stonehenge were dragged there and you can still see the pathways that they made imprinted in the ground. When you see pictures or postcards of it you don't really realize exactly where it is and it looks like its in the middle of nowhere. It kind of is but there is a sheep farm right next to it and a highway that drives right by it which seems kind of bizarre.
All in all a very wonderful trip!
