Its time to hit up the Mexican beaches ! ! First stop on the way though was Chichen Itza. We got on a public bus for two hours to the site. The bus ride was ok. This time ,however, I noticed after we first got on the bus stopped at another station literally around the corner. The station looked a bit dodgy . I thought wow that's a quick stop . The bus was already full but people from this station got on anyways and they had to stand . I asked my tour guide about it and she says these are considered second class so they generally don't get a seat ... Harsh .
We arrived to Chichen Itza about noon. It took us about 30 mins to get the bus from the front entrance to the bus drop off point . Purely because there were so many people there !! Every man and his dog I would say ..
Despite all the people I did enjoy Chichen Itza. It's huge and I didn't realise how many other different ruins there are ( besides the big pyramid you see in pictures ) and again it's only 20 % that have been excavated .
We had a tour guide take us around to the main ruins . He was great I would probably recommend anyone who plans to go there grab a local guide . I would also advise to go early in the morning to avoid crowds. Even when we left the site at 3pm there was still a massive line to enter it .
Afterwards we hopped on a bus to Playa del Carmen which was a three hour ride from Chichen Itza. I watched Money Ball on the bus in Spanish. It helped that I've watched the movie three times in English already. But I should just say that my ability to understand Spanish is just getting that good !
We didn't arrive into Playa until 8.30 ish . Some of us opted to go for a few cocktails at a bar on the beach. I had one called a dirty monkey. It had banana, white rum, coconut and Kailua . Did you know Kailua is from Mexico ? My guide told me that so ever since then I've been drinking Kailua to mix things up a bit.
I've only been in Playa here a little while and I must say I'm enjoying it already. It kind of reminds me of the Gold Coast except the restaurants and bars are soo much better and there are way more bars here along the beach. Tomorrow I'm going to chill out at the beach and wander around the main avenue where all the shops are.. I think I'm due for a new bikini .
Talk tomorrow .
