We arrived in Bangkok 9 days ago and discovered that Khao San Rd is impossible to leave!!!
Our first thoughts as we got off the plane from Mumbai were how organised and clean everything is! It was so easy getting our bags and going through customs compared to what we were used to!! We did have a little drama when we thought we were being arrested but it turned out that the taxi driver we found had entered the airport illegally and was over charging us so he got escorted away! Anyway, we managed to get to the infamous backpacker area of Khao San Rd and were amazed at how many tourists there are! We checked into a guest house and went out for some noodles!
We have pretty much spent the last week sleeping late and partying all night!! We met some people from Leeds and spent most our time with them which was cool! We also had a few nights out to the Patpong night market and resisted the temptation to buy a fake rolex!! It is also the red light district of Bangkok which meant we saw some interesting "sights"! Many an hour was spent trying to decide which Thai girls were actually girls!!!
We also had a one night of luxury in a proper hotel! After 2 months we think we deserved it and it was fab! We had a massive room with an actual window!! A T.V and the best of all...a mattress with springs in! You can laugh all you want but to us it was heaven!! We even ordered room service! We then decided that we needed a bit of culture to make up for all the drinking and had a day visiting some temples! We've done Hindu in India and now we're on to Buddhist! We went to Wat Pho which had the most amazing giant Buddha! It was 15 metres high and about 30 metres long!
So, that pretty much sums up our week in Bangkok! It is a wicked place and we have both said we are coming here on holiday just to shop! We are heading north now to an ancient city called Ayuthaya which I'm sure will be a relaxing change after Bangkok!!
