Singapore was a massive shock for both of us! Firstly, it was absolutely spotless and secondly everyone spoke perfect English! For all of those who don't know, Kate joined us in Singapore for 4 days and is travelling for 3 months in Australia with us so that was crazy actually seeing someone from home!
We all stayed in the Prince of Wales Backpackers Hostel in a 6 bed dorm, it was really nice and pretty clean, but we had a couple of smelly room mates! Anyway, our time spent in Singapore was dedicated mainly to teaching Kate how to play poker and animals! On our first day there it rained for hours, so we sat in a cafe and drank peppermint tea and then visited Bugis Market which was a short walk away from our Hostel. In the evening we drank wine and played poker (well, tried because we had to continue Kate's schooling and also we were playing with cocktail sticks and not money!!)
On our second day, we visited Raffles; we all wanted to have the customary Singapore Sling there, but at $29 a go we decided to give it a miss! Everyone that was staying there gave us very strange looks because we all looked a bit poor, even still we had a nice time pretending to be rich for a couple of hours! We then spent over an hour on a bus trying to get to a museum and when we got there it had been closed for 10 minutes!
On our third day we went to Singapore Zoo which was absolutely amazing. It was by far the best Zoo any of us had ever been to. The animals were all beautiful and in fantastic enclosures, and they had certain animals that we hadn't ever seen in real life before! Our favourites were the Gibbons and the Giant Tortoises! That evening we did a night safari which was so much fun. We went round the zoo in the dark on a tram for about 45 minutes and afterwards there were a number of walks you could do around the park to see how the animals behave at night time; it was pretty scary, but fascinating at the same time!
Singapore was sadly our last stop in Asia, both myself and Jess were absolutely gutted to be leaving. We both feel like there's still a gazillion things left there that we want to do. We had such an amazing time, saw so many incredible things and met some fantastic people on the way round. We both want to go back as soon as possible, but are looking forward to Australia!!
