TK: we had breakfast on the terrace of our hotel overlooking the Mekong River and while we were eating some elephants came down to drink and bathe in the river, it was pretty awesome even though they were far away. We then continued on our journey by slow boat, and had a very relaxed day, arriving into Luang Prabang at 5pm. The town is a world heritage site with an amazing location and some fine old French colonial buildings. We had dinner in a fabulous restaurant garden, I had the signature dish shared with others which was a BBQ in a hole in the centre of the table, onto which sat a metal tray which held both stock and a griddle surface for cooking meat. It's hard to describe but it was sensational! Tender buffalo steak, pork and chicken with a tamarind dipping sauce, and veg cooked in the stock with an egg drizzled into the stock to give extra thickness. We will be spending two full days here, there is so much to do, so stay tuned to find out!
