Well Trinidad didn't start off all that great with our bags getting lost for two whole days! I was the sensible one and had a spare change of clothes on my carry on (sheer luck as it was the first time I decided to). We saw a terrible accident on the highway on the way to where we were staying and the drivers are so crazy. The drive 60km/h over the speed limit, there is no such thing as indicating, they drive at night with no lights on and they are so impatient. I was so scared every time I had to get in a car.....
After we eventually got our luggage and vowed never to fly with Continental again (that now makes Thai and Continental for me) we started to really enjoy the Trini experience. I met all Kirb's mums side of the family and had a great time getting to know them all. They wouldn't stop feeding me the whole time so I think that I actually comsumed my body weight in food in about two weeks. The food there is just amazing, bad for you but terribly addictive. The main snack is called doubles and it is two fried bits of dough with spicy chick peas inside, it is sssssooo good (my skin is paying for the overdose of oil). I had curried duck and goat and ate some great fruit and drank fresh coconut water.
We went to the famous Maracas Bay and had the bake and shark there (another very oily, addictive thing), swam in the beautiful Caribbean waters. Kirb's cuz Hassan took us to Carony swamp for a boat ride where we got to see the national bird, the scarlet ibis, it is the most amazing red colour I have ever seen..... We got taken to an eco resort and lazed by a waterfall for the day, what a life!!
We went to Tobago (more touristy, typical Caribbean Island) for a few days and lazed around in the ocean, Kirb went surfing and we went on a glass bottom boat and snorkling trip. No one in the boat wanted to go snorkling so Kirb and I got to hang onto a life ring on a rope that was tied to the boat and got pulled around by the boat for about 30 minutes. It was awesome, we got to see so much more than if we swam around near the boat and it was effort free. I got to see some pretty amazing coral and fish, it was so much fun!!
We now in London and loving it.....
