Well as usual I didn't keep this as up to date as I had hoped!!! We are now in Trinidad and Tobago visiting more relos, relaxing and eating our body weight in food before we head off to London tomorrow morning.
Since the last blog entry we stayed in Toronto with Kirb's aunt Nicki and her family. We had a ball with his cousins, staying up to 6.30am in the morning playing cards and hanging out, went to a food festival (the Danforth, Toronto), went on a road trip to Niagara Falls, looked over the city at the CN tower. We also caught the Carabana festival, a big Caribbean party and parade in the city, and watched cousin Cat playing steel pan in her band Afropan - onya Cat, you guys are awesome!!!
We went to a family reunion in Moonstone and met most of the Morrison clan there, hung out with the Emberson's, went to a beautiful freshwater beach at Wasaga and went to a country shindig!
We stayed with Kirb's uncle Walter and aunt Gertie in Azilda for a few days, went into a mine shaft, bailed hay and visited more family that were unable to come to the reunion.
We drove up to Quebec and stayed with Kirb's mum's twin sister Salma. Quebec is such a beautiful city, I fell in love with it. Kirb and I practised the little French we know and walked the gorgeous little streets and took in the sights.
Next was onto Ottawa, the capital of Canada to catch up with Nat and Rob, Kirb's cousins...they showed us a fantastic time, Ottawa is also a beautiful city, much nicer than I was expecting. It has some really nice architecture and is easy to walk around, you don't need to use much public transport.
Rob and Tomoko (Rob's partner) drove us to Nova Scotia to Katie and Bob's (Kirb's aunt and uncle) which is about a 16 hour drive. We had a brilliant time there and I had my first meal on this holiday that will be remembered forever. Bob cooked us fresh Nova Scotian lobster (1 each!!!) which was ssssoooo good!!! He matched a wine with every meal we ate there, I had to write the names of them all down so I don't forget, there were some really nice wines. They then took us to Cape Breton Island for a few days and showed us where Kirb's ancestors are buried and where the first Morrison settlement in Canada was located. We had a beautiful drive looping around the island (and even saw a moose); the roads hug the mountains and offer some dramatic scenery.
Our trip was quite open and we hadn't worked out how we were getting to New York City; driving was the option we took...we drove from Halifax to New York which was about 1,500km. We drove through Portland (Maine), Boston (Mass.), and took a slight detour to Cape Cod to stay the night. We had to drop the car off in Manhattan and were peaking out about driving right into the guts of NYC, but as it happened it was actaully really easy, much easier than driving in Sydney.
New York was amazing!!! It is such a fun city.... We stayed with Raffia, Kirb's cousin and her apartment is gorgeous, I felt like I was staying in a 5* hotel. She lives on the upper west side a street away from Central Park. We did all the typical touristy things, saw the statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, hung out at a roller disco and John Lennon memorial in Central Park, and went to a Monty Python Broadway show...not to mention another amazing dining experience at Nobu restaurant - thanks Raffia!!!
