We made it to Barcelona after a gruelling overnight train (trust me, the overnight trains in Thailand are much better).....
We walked the streets of the Barri Gotic area and the famous La Rambla strip and watched the street performers and window shopped the funky, trendy $$$ shops.
A trip to Barcelona is not complete until you see all the famous Gaudi architecture, and it is definitely a must! His Sagrada Familia is just amazing and I have vowed to return in 2020 for its completion. Kirb and I spent ages inside and walking around the outside in awe. We also checked out Park Guell where we saw the house Gaudi lived in, two buildings which looked like fairytale gingerbread houses, and the famous lizard at the entrance of the park. We also checked out Casa Batllo, which is an amazing array of coloured mosiac tiles and La Pedrera with its organic curves and funky iron balustrades.
We visited the magic fountain at the olympic site in the evening and watched the fountain all lit up with coulourful lights, dancing to music. We got some great photos of it! It is really quite spectacular to see and once again I would have to say a must see!!!
We made it out clubbing to a pumping club in the middle of the industrial area spitting out all kinds of music over 5 levels. Nothing gets cranking in Barcelona until 2am in the morning and then its a crazy disco party until daylight. We had to take a siesta in the afternoon just to make it through the night!
After arriving back at the hostel at 6.30am after clubbing we had a relaxing day on the beach and Kirb got a massage.
We needed a break from the big city and Kirb arranged a little escape for us. We headed north of Barcelona to Cadaques, a beautiful coastal village on the Costa Brava in the Mediterranean. It had a laid back vibe, we had a beatiful little room overlooking the sea and spent the time we had there walking the rocky coast and recharging for the next leg of our trip. We had a couple of drinks in a little legendary jazz club called L'Hostal where alot of famous people have played and hung out. Kirb visited the Dali museum in Figueres and has some awesome photos of it.
We are sitting in an internet cafe in Amsterdam waiting for our flight to Istanbul this evening. We visited the Anne Frank House this morning and had our last serve of the best hot chips/frittes/fries in the world (not exaggerating)!
See you in Turkey!
