Hello all. Bit of a stressful day today! First off we set a 7 o clock alarm on Gemmas phone to make sure we were nice and early for breakfast...we tiptoed around the dorm and got all showered and everything, then when we wandered outside it was pitch black. Thoguht it was a bit strange but that maybe that was normal in Argentina, who knows, then I hear 'Oh noooo Jess!' as Gemma realised her phone was still set to English time and it was actually 3 in the morning! Oops. We had an embarassed conversation with the owner explaining why we were up at such an early hour. Even Gemma admitted "Muy estupido". So we did our packing by the pool and then when back to bed for a few hours extra sleep.
We set off from puerto Iguazu at about 10am, catching the bus from there into Ciudad del Este which is just over the Argentinian border in Paraguay and is about a 50 minute bus journey. This went fairly smoothly but it's a bit strange as the bus stops at immigration and we got our passports stamped to prove we'd left Argentina, and then you get back on the bus. However once we reached Cuidad del este on the Paraguayan side, the bus just ditched us at the immigration office and we were in a bit of a dodgy area, lots of men selling strange looking things like bugs stapled to pieces of wood, and trying to convince us to get into taxis. We also had no local currency so were searching for an ATM but nobody seemed to know where one was. Luckily we hooked up with some German guys who were on our bus from Iguazu and we stuck with them till we found an ATM and then got an official taxi to the bus station. From there we got a 6 hour bus into Asuncion (one of Paraguays capitals) where we're staying for the night...the bus journey was fine, very pleasant, but we were unsure of where to get off and we miscommunicated a bit and the driver was like "your stop, last stop" and we got off and were once again ditched in another VERY dodgy looking area. We concluded we weren't in the centre and in no hope of finding our hotel, so we just walked as if we knew what we were doing until we found an internet cafe to print the address of the hotel off to give to a taxi driver. Luckily the owner of the internet cafe took pity on us and told us to stay inside because it was "dangerous" outside, and called us a taxi to bring us to the hotel.
After about 5 minutes driving you could see the difference and the hotel is lovely! We've got the luxury of our own room with an ensuite and there is a pool and allsorts. We've just chilled out and had dinner in the hotel tonight after a bit of an exhausting day. Tomorrow we're planning on getting a 22 hour night bus to Santa Cruz or Sucre in Bolivia ready to do the tour of the Salt Flats, so in the day we´re just going to get some washing done as it seems there is little to see in Asuncion without wandering into a ghetto! LOL! I kid. Kind of. We're getting an early night tonight, we're gonna sleep the day off. Love you all! xxx
