So on our last day in Australia we went to Paddys marketin Chinatown to spend the last of our Aussie dollars (another hoodieand a scarf!) and had a walk through the chinese friendship garden and around Darling harbour. We then did some washing and packed and had an early night as our bus to the airport was early.
The bus in the morning was early so we had to race out to it at 5.25am, and as we were the last pick up we went straight to the airport so we were quite early, but as we were still half asleep checking in and getting some brekkie that was fine. The flight was delayed about 30mins so when we arrived in Christchurch we had to jump in a shuttle bus to get to the campervan depot before it closed. W e got there fine and are now the proud owners of a Toyota Lucida , that has a pic of a big eagle on the side (v . boyish :(). We then set straight off to the supermarket to get some food in and some petrol then set off on the road south, We got to Rakaia and stopped in at a motorhome camp where we cooked our dinner and finished off the game of scrabble we'd started on the plane, then went to bed (early) as theres nothing else to do and its too bloody cold not to be in bed! We were quite warm as we've got our sleeping bags, a fleecy blanket each and a duvet ontop of us - but i reckon without all that we would def not be warm enough!!
In the morning we woke up after a fairly uncomfortable sleep (we'd not sorted the matresses out properly) about 9am and had a quick shower and got on our way again, we took the inland scenic route south and so drove past Mt Cook, which until we got close was covered in clouds, and then onto Lake Tekapo and then lake Pukaki where we stopped to make ourselves some sandwiches for lunch and then Vic took over the driving on through a few little towns in the middle of nowhere until we got back to the coast at Oamaru, where we went to Bushy beach to see some yellow eyed penguins come up on to the beach, we could have also gone to a beach stadium to see another type of penguins but we'd already seen these little fellas and you're quite far away so we decided not to bother and just plow a bit further south. We got down to the moeraki boulders before it went dark but as the tide had come in we couldnt really see them so we decided to find a campsite nearby and see them in the morning.
Which we did this morning, the boulders are weird things really almost perfectly spherical rocks. We then progressed on the drive to Queenstown, where we have just arrived now and have had some lunch at the van before heading into the town to find life as i think we are just gonna be driving this week and so this maybe our only chance to get on the net and have a look for souvenirs from NZ.
So anyway we're off for a look around Queenstown now, Em think we might try and find Ferg burger for tonights dinner.
Tomorrow we're heading to Milford Sound so another lot of driving, Im just hoping we never come across snow as we dont have snow chains :s
