Arrived at Rome by Segway (south of the Colosseum) at 9:25am for our 1/2 hour training and 3 hour Baroque Tour.
I must say that I was concerned that I would not be able to Segway ... I am very happy to say I did it! I am converted - I loved it! It is the best way to see a city!
Our guide Eric, took us along roads, up hills, down lanes, through traffic, on footpaths and through crowds, up and down little steps and on gravel. On the way we stopped off to see The Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps, The Pantheon, Piazza Navone and more. We rode all the way up to Piazza Del Popolo and the beautiful gardens above. Absolutely fabulous!
Had Italian for lunch ... as you do. Then caught the metro to the Vatican City (I wish I still had the Segway!!).
We walked for what seemed like miles in the Vatican Museum. I was amazed by the amount of Egyptian artefacts they have, not to leave out the statues and carvings, tapestries and jewels. I'm sure that all that glitters in this place IS gold!
We accessed The Sistine Chapel via the museum, so I'm still not sure what it looks like from the outside.
Did I mention that it is very hot again today? Rehydrated with an ice tea and fruit salad.
Walked around to St Peter's Square and lined up to get into St Peter's Basilica. Fortunately, I was wearing shorts with zip on legs! So, when I was told I could not go in showing 'that much knee' we just zipped the bottom part of the legs on!!
We climbed to the dome first which was an incredible experience in itself, let alone the views into the Basilica from the base of the dome and then the views outside from the top of the dome!
Watched a replay of the F1 Q2 with a kebab and then watched F1 Q3 with a cider before calling it a night.
