Hey Everyone (sorry this not personal to each and everyone of you but its late and I'm tried so thought the best way to start was in a large forward)
SO Im here at St Jude, safe and sound! All in one piece but so extremely tired.
So how should I start to explain the last 24 hours.....Arrived in London no problems long flight to Kenya, flight was great totally recommend BA to anyone flying. Staff was great and the plan was not too full. Nothing exciting about that part until around 6am when the sun was rising and we were flying over Darfur and Sudan. Let me tell you about amazing, and then flying over the whole country of Kenya. As far as the eye can see is mountains, desert, and lush green all in one. With no and I mean no civilization, its totally amazing and beats your images from Out of Africa. Life forms started to appear as we got closer to Nairobi. No kidding they have lived in a tribal state for as long as one can remember, its a world that has not been developed except for a few parts.
So guess what....Only one of my piece of my luggage arrived. The lovely Adidas duffel bag never even left LA. Thank you so very much American airlines, they say I might get it in a few days but cant grantee anything. Well so is life, dad that's exactly what you told me about, dont freak out pick up and move forward. And forward I did. So as it would be I met a British man and his wife who are going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We decided to hang out because they were taking the same bus to Arusha. Of course got to talking to a bunch of locals at the airport, made a few friends, and headed into town to have lunch with them. They told us all about the struggle in Kenya, and you best believe its the real deal. I will explain more in detail in a later email. But everything in Nairobi is fine, only in the far slums and the city shows no sign of struggle. But this country is on the verge of going into complete warfare (more details to come in the next email I promise).
The bus ride was an adventure Kenya was ok.....but TANZANIA is the most beautiful country I have ever seen. Words can not do the country Justice. About 30 min into the border, started to see the Masai tribal people walking everywhere herding sheep, goats, or cows on every side of the road for as far as the eye can see. Women caring water, baskets, buckets and so forth on there head like you would imagine. And children all over the place. Unbelievable countryside.
Then heading into Arusha! This email telling you the overwhelming feeling that came over me can not really be explained. Tears are an understatement. If you think that movies, news, books, or anything else can prepare you for Africa. It cant at all. Hundreds of people everywhere all over the streets, the poorest situation I have every seen, hundreds of children. and on and on.......and this is where I live. Children selling cooked corn on the cob on the street corner, to children caring fire wood obviously to warm the shamble they live in. Its the most moving event I have ever seen. If you think Arusha is a great modern city that is ready for the safari rich, not even in the least bit. I could not imagine someone coming to this city to stay on vacation and enjoy themselves with not feeling the overwhelming emotion of the extrema poverty.
Then I moved onto St Jude, and guess what I have hot water a new set up that was turned on last month, yippeeee!!! And my own little room with a living room and own bathroom its totally fantastic! The people that I have met are great and now I'm ready for bed.
I love you all, and miss you. Thank you for all your prayers, love and support.
Cheers,
Jenny
