hello peoples so we're in New Zealand...it took a whole 3 hours to get here from Fiji but in that time the temperature has gone from lovely, hot and tan-tastic to oh my god we're in wintery England!! we just hope our tans will stay till north Australia!
so anyway we are in Auckland now and its a really lovely city, not like the American ones we're used too! spent 2 nights here and even managed to head out in to the city one evening..went to a live music bar, then randomly went to an Irish pub to be chatted up by 2 Irish drunkards..one of which failed to notice the toilet roll he dragged round the pub on his foot. We found it hillarious but thought it best to run away at that point! the next day, a little worse for wear we headed out on a free city tour, the tour guide was very odd but had some interesting/weird stories and jokes! went to various places such as sky tower (which u can bungee jump from...we did NOT!!!) mission beach, harbour bridge, viewed the city from the top of a volcano and the best bit..lunch (and a sneaky beer) in a local All Blacks pub!yum..that was the bar man!!!
So then we thought we'd better start travelling the country a bit due to limited time so headed up to the Bay of Islands and a cute little town called Paihia (or something like that seriously there are some odd names here thanks to the Maori people). Was a really tiny little town, we walked the high street in about two minutes but we really liked it - in part due to the ice cream shop - seriously nothing puts us off ice cream!! Our hostel went down very well as we had a twin room, you might say a little love nest of our very own. The duvets had pictures of cartoon bugs on them and the 'apartment' had it's own kitchen and bathroon so no mixing with the riff raff, was very cute!!!Chilled out in the eve with a bbq - yes in winter - and a free pint each, very amusing we just can't pull that look off!!
Next day we had a swim with dolphins trip booked. Were a little worried about this having heard from a guide about how the dolphins are feeling particularly frisky at the moment and often try to hump ladies who dare get in the water with them. Apparently they are a very good free pregnancy test kit too as they can sense this in women and protect them. Sadly we didn't get to actually swim with the dolphins as they had babies with them - one of the many rules against it - we did however see a massive pod of them and they swam with our boat for a long time. The guide woman was getting slightly hysterical at this practically falling in the water as she hung over the front and shrieking at them in a high squeaky voice just as if they were children. Check out the video we think you can hear her on that. Was a very chilly journey as we hunted for hours but worth it in the end, jenny even saw some penguins which I think she got more excited over than the actual dolphins, but it made her day!!
Back in Auckland now ready to travel south for the next couple of weeks on the Magic bus. Not impressed by stories of people being snowed in in Queenstown at the moment though, we only have bikinis and skirts with us......will this be ok???
