Our last few weeks here in Australia have been fun-filled, especially our stay at Kroombit Cattle Station where we took part in a goat rodeo! This involved chasing a goat (a very big one too!) flipping him over and pretending to brand him, was such a laugh and a very unique experience! We also rode a mechanical bull, Becky stayed on for 11 seconds and Jenny even longer, loving it so much she went on twice! One of our drivers, Frat, was an expert on the bull and even stood up on it. Learning how to crack a whip and use a lassoo were also interesting and good fun. Passing an electric current from a cattle prod through us all linked in a circle was also very funny if a little painful!
Leaving the group in Airlie Beach after a nice group meal and great night out, we relaxed for a couple of days on Magnetic Island, staying in cool little huts practically on the beach. This island gets over 320 days of sunshine a year so was very very hot!! (don't worry parents - suncream was applied!)
Australia Day (26th Jan) we celebrated with an Aussie BBQ at Scotty's Beach House at Mission Beach. More beautiful sunshine and a nice chilled out place to laze around in it!
Now in Cairns, our final stop! The Great Barrier Reef definately the highlight! We went out on a catamaran called Ocean Spirit and sailed 2 hours to Michaelmas Cay to check out the reef. We did a semi-submersible tour where we were lucky enough to see a turtle swimming ny and also lots of different types of fish and coral. Snorkelling was a lot more fun than we expected, loved swimming amongst the fishies and watching them swim around our ankles as we disturbed the sand.
This is our final blog as we fly home tomorrow, can't believe its gone so fast! Hope you've all enjoyed hearing about our adventures and we're sure you'll hear a lot more when we see you very very soon! :-)
