Hay hay everyone!!
A quick update about our Ankor Wat experience! After watching the sun set over a huge temple on the hill we had a 5am early start to watch the sun rise over Ankor Wat! We were taken to Ankor by the best and only way to travel..You guessed it the tuk tuk, yay!!! Our driver dropped us near Ankor where we had to walk across the causeway to see it.The bridge over the lake proved to be abit "risky" as it had no barriers to prevent you wandering off the edge..This wouldnt normally have been a problem but it was pitch black and we couldn't see a thing!! We made it through to Ankor we were met by coffee sellers...We then got our space down by the lake opposite Ankor Wat!
All of a sudden the sun began to come up.It was a very pretty site as all the colours in the sky slowly changed around the Wat.Everyone had their cameras at the ready to try and get a perfect shot of the amazing sunrise...I must have taken around 100 photos, glad I have a digital camera so can delete some!!! Also managed to video the whole experience so I really will be able to watch an Ankor sunrise whenever I want!
After Ankor we went to another temple called Bayon. Again our tuk tuk driver was at the ready to whisk us off their.I was surprised at just how far away each temple was in the complex and was relieved we had our driver to take us about in the roasting heat!Bayon was another amazing site, its temple had huge faces in the stone work.Take alook a the photos to see what I mean!
Around each of the temples were lots of the local children! Many of them had been trained to beg for money from tourists. Alot of them were selling bracelets and flutes. One boy offered us 10, yes 10 flutes for 1 doller.I almost took him up on it and now regret it as I could have flogged them on ebay "Original Cambodian flutes"!!!! I did however buy a lovely painting which I'm praying will survive in my huge rucksack till I can send it home.
The last temple we looked at was called Ta Prhom and had been overtaken by huge trees and its roots. All the temples were a fab site and a real experience to look around. We were amazed at how big and also how steep some of them were.
Later that afternoon we went to one of the "posh" hotels where we were able to use their pool! It was nice to cool down after the heat at Ankor! We decided to have a cocktail and it turned out to be a very random cocktail! We asked for a blue lagoon which in England would be a funky blue drink with vodka.....No no no in Cambodia the drink is a dirty brown colour and has Baileys in!! Hmmmmm! Anyway its all good, we enjoyed our cocktail but the barman was no Tom Cruise bless him!!!
The cambodian curry here is delicious and even better with an Ankor beer.We are still impressed with the strength of all the beers here at 6-7%!Also cheap at price...Oww and the last thing I have to mention is ghecco's..Jo found one in the our villa corridor and was abit scared of it..We both spent sometime blocking up the underneath of the dorm door with loo roll to keep out the mini pests!
Cambodia rocks..probably best country so far!
