Arrived here by sleeper bus from Shenzhen...... Was an experience in itself let me tell you. The sleeper bus had 3 rows of bunk beds which were about 30cm across and 1m long, goodness only knows how we slept but one thing for sure is that I'm dam glad I brought that Ipod- can allow you to sleep in any form of Asian transport!!! Was a tad scary on the bus as we had been told to keep our valuables on us as loads of people get robbed during the night on sleeper buses...Seems pretty mad as the robbers would have know where to run but we followed the advice anyway!
After arriving to Honkers we got a train into the centre to Nathan Road where we had booked our hostel. Nathan Road is abit like Oxford Street in London, very busy, loads of shops, restaurants etc Our hostel was pretty basic but it did the job...We had a fantastic curry for about 1-2 English pounds, yummy yummy!
Quick update....
Wow we have had 3 great days in Honkers, weather here has been fab- blue skies and like a warm summer day in England! We have not seen the sun for so long!!!! So glad to get out of our long Johns and winter coats and into t-shirts, hooray! Your be pleased to know we both ripped up our hoodies (which we have worn in all our China and Japan pics!) It was emotional for me cutting up my ketchup stained, blacked sleeved, smelly, faithful hoodie! It had kept me so warm throughout the cold times in China- I will miss that lovely hoodie! We also got rid of our jackets to random tramps/homeless people!
Have explored Kowloon and ventured over to Hong Kong Island several times on the lovely star ferry.....We passed by the posh Peninsula Hotel...Sorry Mum too smelly to go in but had a photo outside of course!! Was considering cutting my trip short and having a few nights there on the money I had...My desire to see Thailand soon outweighed that crazy thought!!
View over to HK Island stunning especially at night, lots of modern tall buildings to see. In the evening there is laser light show around the harbour- fantastic and captured it all on camcorder. Got the tram up to Victoria peak.....Me and Jo scared the tram may slide backwards down the very steep hill- modern technology is an amazing thing hay!. View form top of Vicky Peak lovely and clear, you could even see loads of eagles flying around the peak!
People in our flea pit, sorry hostel, really nice and learnt some NEW drinking games! Managed to get quiet drunk last night on a game called "4 of a kind" and also on a game involving a penny, toilet paper and a cup...don't even ask!!!! Today we went to Ocean theme park...We managed to go on cable cars over to the other side of the park..Climbed up to a great height so the views over the sea excellent! Went on some good rides including one called Abyss which drops you from a great height...Overall the rides slightly tame for Jo and Jensta but nice to have a brief adrenaline rush!!!!
Well leg 1 of our trip draws to a close soon and tomorrow we begin leg 2...We fly to Bangkok in Thailand and we both CAN'T WAIT!!!! I'm certainly craving the blue waters and white sands and can't wait to dive again!! Hopefully this time I can find Nemo!!!Living the dream......Hugs to all xxx
